Been looking into Godot lately, and a I stumbled across this. It's a tool for creating simple voxel rpgs, and was created with Godot apparently.

I'm probably not going to use it, as I prefer 2D, but I figured I'd post it here in case anyone's interested.

RPG Maker games get a lot of criticism for all looking the same, but any 3D cube-based game design software is so much worse. Minecraft got big over a decade ago and everybody was like "whelp, we have to make everything out of cubes now".

3D assets are significantly more difficult to create than 2D ones, barring cubes, so a lot of them inevitably end up looking like a Minecraft texture mod. I know Minecraft was far from the first game to do it, but by far it was the most influential on the direction of game design.

Godot had a huge advertising campaign saying how easy the engine is. I remember seeing videos about it when I was looking into Unity and Unreal Engine. Despite that, people still use Unity and Unreal Engine.

I don't know, I just watched the trailer for this maker and it showed off a lot projects that people are working on. Minecraft is the last thing I thought of for pretty much all but maybe one of them.
Hey, I'm Justin, the creator of RPG in a Box! Thanks so much, Bluefeathr42, for your post about it! I stumbled across this thread and thought I'd post in case anyone had any questions about it that I could help answer. I've been putting together a community showcase every other month to help show the games that everyone is currently making and the diversity of what can be made with the engine. For anyone interested, here's a link to the January 2022 game showcase image:

There's a wide variety of projects currently in development, ranging from things like the cozy top-down RPG "Key Keeper" (of which Chapter 1 was released as part of the first official RPG in a Box game jam) to the sci-fi first-person shooter "UPGRADE" (of which a tech demo was released, also as part of the game jam).

I'll leave the Discord server invite here as well, in case anyone would like to jump on and say hello or ask any questions! :)

Oh, that looks cute! Idk if I'd be comfortable paying full price for an early access software (early access games are already a big gamble in of itself) but I'll wishlist.

Thanks so much for the wishlist, I'm glad you like it! I forgot to mention, there's also a free demo version available on both Steam and itch.io for anyone who'd like to get a feel for what's currently possible. It includes all features that are available in the full version, with just some limitations on map size/count within a game project.

itch.io: https://zeromatrix.itch.io/rpginabox

You can also check out my Trello board to follow along with its development and see what features are in progress, planned, etc.
