I've literally never played any Dragon Quest games, what are they like?
How can you not have played a DQ game. Have you played final fantasy?

I don't think DQ games were that popular. I mean, if you weren't really playing games when the first four came out (which is quite a few people I'm sure), then you only really had a chance with VII (which wasn't popular and had dated graphics) and then the semi-popular VIII.
I can see how it happens. I do think it's too bad though, because it is arguably better than the Final Fantasy series and lets people see Japanese RPGs in a completely different light.

I believe that if someone is not that into RPGs or into Final Fantasy so much, then Dragon Quest wouldn't be that appealing to them. Everyone who I introduce DQ to has a problem with the graphics, but IMO that's what makes Dragon Quest great.
I currently preordered V and fighting Aamon in Ch. 6 of IV. Beat I, II, and III.
