RMNCAST: EPISODE 5
Posts
Yeah, DE. Not gonna lie. Two of use were called in a few hours before recording and it was an organizational mess. Holb had technical problems as well, so we missed about half the stuff he said.
This is basically four guys shitting around on a mic. The meatiest part of the podcast is the RMN3 section which actually DOES have a lot of info in it.
Harsh is good.
Also, I wasn't a big fan of the game design topic this time around.

Umm, I didn't like it :(
There was too much pointless blather and stupid jokes and not enough real content. I turned the podcast off around the 45 minute mark because I couldn't bear you guys talking about... nothing.
I listen to a lot of miniature wargaming podcasts and stupid red herrings such as these are the first thing to get axed. I don't listen to podcasts to hear stupid inside jokes, I listen to people with a certain amount of knowledge discussing topics relevant and/or important to the hobby. Kinda like "amateur professionals" exchanging points of view and providing insight into different aspects of game making.
Actually, I agree with this. I am not fond of this particular episode at all. I had decided to not do it, but changed my mind at the 11th hour.
I dunno, I don't think it was that bad. The four have some good chemistry together, and it seemed like a lot of fun listening to it. Okay so I guess very good is a bit of an overstatement, but if you're looking for constructive criticism;
-Although it wasn't too bad this time, four guys on one podcast can mean trouble, 'too many cooks in the kitchen' so to speak. A broadcasting strategy is to have at least one person of the opposite gender when you have this many people to spice it up.
-The technical problems were really bad. I couldn't hear Holb half of the time and things with the mics just seemed wonky. I know I'm one to talk considering the first podcast I did had lots of volume issues, but still.
-Too much pointless bickering about nothing, littered throughout the entire thing. Having some fun is one thing, but there was just too much of it, almost as if you guys just didn't know what to say.
-A little bit more emphasis on community events. I think the podcasts are always solid when it comes to discussing game design, but when it comes to what's going on in the community (which is arguably more important as the community is what keeps the glue together), a lot of you seemed to be at a loss. There was a lot of 'I didn't read that topic' and 'I didn't post in that topic' and there really wasn't much substance at all from most of you to the conversation about working out and relationship issues (which was the subjects at hand), except...more pointless banter.
-I can't blame you for not being into the game design topic, but instead of picking simply the biggest one, how about picking the the most interesting one for discussion? You guys could have talked about the 'Limitations' topic or the 'What gets you to work on your game' topic.
This is a good idea.
So yeah, it wasn't horrible, and I subjectively enjoyed it, but, I can see why you guys didn't like it.

What I'd like to hear in the next episode(s) is a kind of a news flash. Most important events happening in the community over past few weeks, read by just one person and no comments from others. These thing are very enjoyable.
This is a good idea.

Unpopular statement alert:
My Chemical Romance gets way too much shit. I'm not saying they are a good band or even one deserving of respect but they are maligned far too much. They get the same level of shit as truly worthless acts like Fallout Boy and ugh, shudder, Linkin Park just because they released one unbelievably faggy single and their stage presence during their early career was embarassingly emo/goth/queer. They have actually grown as a band and some of their later stuff is actually stuff I can almost respect, rather than stuff I listen to as a complete guilty pleasure.
Also I really liked the podcast even if it was silly.

Yeah, I don't remember who dropped out, but whoever it was it took WIP AND I to replace them, so I hope they feel special.
If I ever join in again (not likely), I will be sure to do it from the privacy of my own interwebs and will insure it is prescheduled.
Also, DE, you are taking this way too serious. RPG Maker is serious business though, I guess.
Well, I know I've been on the last two podcasts, but no one IMed me, PMed me, or anything about this one. I've IMed brandon a few times but it was only yesterday I've actually gotten a hold of him. Of course I want to do more podcasts in the future but no one told me about this one.
This is a little OT but I am almost never on AIM. Email and PM are reliable. My AIM turns on by itself all the time.
