Although Wild ARMS is the better game, the battle scenes in Suikoden's battles did age better.

I beat the first one and it was decent. The second seemed like the exact same game and I stopped half way through. I didn't get far in the third one, and never played the fourth or fifth.

I own one to three, and they're at my parents house in Canada.
I definitely have to disagree that Wild Arms is better. I always saw the series as good, but mediocre.
The Wild Arms series is mediocre, but the first game was really really good.

To be fair, Wild Arms is pretty much just like this (every sequel is set in the same world and have recurring characters). There are tons of similarities. And I'm a pretty big Wild Arms fan, because of how it mixes puzzle elements in an RPG to make the dungeons so much better than almost any other jRPG. You are probably like me and are more fond of the different design aspects in WA.

But anyway, I've only played Suikoden 1 and 2. I have played very little of the third one, but I have always loved the music from the series. The battle system has also aged surprisingly well, which is something you don't really see often.

I am almost positive that every Wild Arms is set in its own world.

Suikoden is the best... I hope a lot of people buy these so Konami stops intentionally trying to kill the series by consistently releasing new Suikoden games on the exact same day as major Final Fantasy titles. (Seriously, every time. ~_~)

I am disappointed that the Suikoden eboot I made myself several months ago had a more professional description than the official eboot.
So I've played a good amount of this over the last few days. I have been in the process of changing apartments so my access to video games etc is a little limited. I am glad, though, because this is a good game.

It starts out -really- dry. It's pretty bad. But once the game picks up steam, it improves drastically. The translation is spotty at times (especially the menus), but the scenario is extremely compelling and the characters are very good.

I first played Suikoden when I was like . . . 10 years old something. I didn't really 'get' the game. Viktor was my favorite character because he did the most damage! But now, Gremio is my favorite character.

I have noticed that the mapping is not very good. I have seen so many RPGMaker games rip these tiles off and use them better. Funny!

So yeah guys I recommend this game 100%. It's super good. It's also really cheap! having a chance to play a coveted collector's item for $5.99 both at home on PS3 and on-the-go on PSP - that's a stellar deal.

EDIT FOR WIP:

For hardware sales: http://www.joystiq.com/tag/HardwareSales/

Before the 360 price drop, PSP outsold it every month. LIKE I SAID IT IS NO BIG DEAL I am just saying that the hardware is a viable platform with reasonable sales.
PSP sold well because of something called Monster Hunter. I want to play Suikoden one day but prices on the game are way too steep.

After playing it for like 16 hours I have bad news: Tierkries is shit. Congratulations Konami, you successfully created 2008's 17th Tales game.
Ciel, dear, you're shattering my dreams here. ;.;

Ah well, it couldn't be worse than four, right? Right?

Yeah, the mapping isn't that great in the first but it's more a story/political/character driven game (though I love the sprite poses in 2 ^.^) and the music is tops.

No one in my country cares about Monster Hunter and the PSP still turns in solid hardware sales figures.
If only they would do the same for Xenogears...

Suikoden us box art, lol...I remember wasting time trying to figure out who was who...
