STREET FIGHTER II HD REMIX. AND FIGHTING GAMES IN GENERAL.
Posts

Because we have enough RPG topics floatin' around. Diversify yo' bonds.
I'm an absolute fighting game fanatic, and the announcement of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix got me all excited and stuff. If you've heard of it, you may think 'this is just yet another Street Fighter II game. Why should I care about this?' You're right! It is another SF II game! But why you should care about it? Why, a multitude of reasons!
For one, Street Fighter II is one of the most important and well playing fighting games of all time. There's a reason why they keep releasing it, and there's a reason why professional tournament circles play it to this day. It's fucking good. It's always been well balanced and touted for it's playability, but this generation pushes it even further. The gameplay has been rebalanced, the music is featured by Overclocked Remix, the graphics have obviously been redone (and by UDON to boot), and best of all, it's purchasable on the Playstation Network, and you can play online against the world. I know a lot of us have played Street Fighter II all over, but this is a good time, better than ever to put your foot in the genre.
But yeah, I'm a fighting game fanatic, so this topic is to discuss the genre as a whole. What's your favorite game? Are you a fan? Have you ever been to a tournament? Etc, etc. Discuss!
Also black people love fighting games.
I downloaded the trial on XBL, realized I had to play locally with 2 players to play at all, and then turned it off.
The most interesting part about this game is the fact that David Sirlin is the lead designer. Since he made an amazing article (or a book I think now it is) Playing to Win. Which is a worthwhile read.
The most interesting thing about SSFT2HD is that the XBox 360 controller has the worst D-pad in the universe.
I got this from the XBox Live Arcade. Fucking awesome to play it again. Get my arse handed to me online though.
Why hasn't anyone mentioned other fighting games? I'm an avid Tekken player myself, and I can pretty much list of Lee's entire moveset off the top of my head. It's a really nasty surprise for those King and Bryan fanatics at the tournaments.
Been playing this with my buddy on PSN for awhile. I might suck at this game and revert mostly to basic attacks, but I know his style and avoid the special moves. The graphics are great, and OCRemix did the soundtrack I think; that's where I go for most of my video game music needs
Some of the best moments in my life involved playing Tekken Tag Tournament with friends. Street Fighter Alpha 3 as well, shit was insane.

Someone mentioned the soundtrack. I must say I do not like it. The mixing is absolutely terrible for most of the tracks.

Tekken is too slooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow.

Like he said, I think he means overall fast paced, like Alpha 3 or Marvel vs Capcom, which are both excellent games by the way. Of course the Tekken series is awesome as well, I have a few friends who basically make their living off of East Coast Tekken tournaments, the scene is huge.
I don't think Tekken and Soul caliber should be mentioned in the same sentence. I hate Tekken, but love Soul caliber ...
Tekken is pretty cool.
However, let's get back to the real focus here: the XBox 360 controller has the worst D-pad in the history of gaming.

Ergo, Street Fighter Alpha 3 is my favourite fighting game. Turn it up to max speed and you can't really go wrong. I play as Sakura (a weak choice, I know, but playing as Ryu/Ken/Akuma is kinda cheap so I wanted to balance that out) and I think I'm pretty damn good playing as her. Although I'd probably get my arse handed to me by "professionals". Shame the PS1 version doesn't have an online option :-X
Street Fighter is my favorite games series and Alpha 3 is my favorite but I sadly have to admit that I was never a huge fan of SF II. I liked it when I was younger but the game, at least when played against the computer had some priority problems. Not as bad as say, the final bosses in KoF games, but enough that it hampered my enjoyment of the game.I didn't get to experience the game competitively much against other people either. The Alpha series was what really hooked me.
I like playing as Vega,M. Bison and Charlie the most, but I usually cycle through the characters.
Estrella...can you...can you be my girlfriend?
Seriously, not to sound patronizing or anything but in all my years as a fighting game player it's really refreshing to see a female face in a genre mostly dominated by males.

Sure, if you want to pay for my surgery!
(by that I mean I'm a dude, though I can see why someone could come to the conclusion otherwise especially with the name Estrella. My ex girlfriend liked Street Fighter and we played it together abit. It is pretty cool!
