FALLEN-GRIEVER'S REVIEW THREAD

Posts

True on the NPC front, though I tend to do things like oldschool 2D RPGs. I'm a big Lunar fan, hence the comical and conversational NPCs. I'll definitely take that into account, though.

Good point on the HP and TP items. Definitely gonna spend some time fixing that. Especially since I've introduced the magick system, and enemies weak to elements and such, so refilling TP's gonna be a big deal.
Hm.....

I suppose that's a pitfall I have to avoid when making 'Sunnydale'.... (the "pretend-to-give-players-a-choice-but-punish-them-if-they-don't-pick-the-"correct"-one"). But I understand how it happens though... You don't want to make the game too easy for players who do choose to do everything.
Actually, I think you should reward your players for trying to do everything. Means they like your game, means they'll play more of it.
That's kind of what I was thinking...

I think a safe way to set up a game like that is to design it so that it is beatable with just doing the "minimum amount", so speak. Anything a player does outside of that can be considered a 'bonus.'
Well I might as well put my game up to be reviewed. Its not an RPG but you seem to review a lot of stuff. here it is.

V&V has several difficulty modes - the easiest of which requires very little of the player in expectations of combat. The game also requires only a single item to be found to get the good ending, and does warn you if you do not have it. I am not sure how much more it can be pushed into the player's face without being totally fucking obnoxious.

I will save the rest of my blabbering for the comments section of the review.
On a quick note, I think it's a huge waste of time that you (FG) want to redo your previous reviews. Standards always change, doesn't mean you have to play everything again and write everything over just because your standards are different today.

Wonders Inc.added to the list.

@Karsu: After the last of the letters, I can assure you that nothing was "pushed in my face". You're right that the game tells you you're going to fail if you try to sleep on the final day, the problem is that I just didn't care anymore. I was quite happy to let my character die.

You didn't get the last letter.
Thanks so much for the review, FG. I'm glad you seemed to enjoy the game. I do feel I have to apologize for the amount of cutscenes though. Although the game is story oriented, I kind of went a bit overboard with the non-interactivity.

Thanks again!

It's not really my standards that have changed, I've just come to accept that most RMN users use a slightly different rating system to me. Also, a lot of my older reviews are not that well written and sometimes the score doesn't reflect the text and I want to fix that. I'm not wholesale rewriting reviews (I considered it), just giving them a face-lift.

Yeah, F-G. I like your way of thinking. It isn't necessarily that you did them completely wrong the first, but my guess is that you want all your reviews to be as consistent with each other in terms of quality of writing as well as their related ratings. And yeah, thankfully different people have different standards, so that way we can get a balanced view (with enough reviews) of a game.
