WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF GAMING TO YOU?

Just what aspects of a game do you feel is the most important? Options include but are not limited to:

* The plot.
* The characters.
* The combat system.
* The length.
* Character creation options.
* The ability to make choices that affect the game.
* Period setting.
* Graphical presentation.
* Music.
* Custimization.
* The use of the words "final" and "fantasy" in the title.
* Bewbs.

For me it would be the plot. If a game doesn't have a good story that interests me i generally will turn off the game and never touch it again. Battle systems are important as well. If a game has a boring system or battle are too easy/hard it is higly unlikely i'll continue to play the game.

I need to be able to play the game with as few interruptions as possible. Text strings that do not include numbers are considered annoying.

The only major exception to this for me is the Xenosaga series.

Summary, despite the short length of this post: killing things with +3 ATK.
With the options given, I'm going to assume you mean RPGs.

The most important part is the basics. NPCs saying interesting/varied things, layouts of places perfect for exploring/navigating/whatever the situation, and battle system's flow is perfect (amount of leveling up/weapons/armour avail/spells/monster stats).

The rest is nice, but only if the basics are done correctly.

Characters
Music

All I want is something that is fun with interesting characters with cool tunes in the background. The rest are mostly stuff that'll catch my eye but it won't give much lasting appeal or have a negative impact on the game.
For me an RPG needs to have a good story and characters first and foremost. You can have good gameplay, but that won't make me want to complete it - after a while gameplay gets old.

It can have great graphics, but the graphics can't be what makes you want to progress through the game.

An engaging story with fleshed out characters can make you forget about how mediocre gameplay/graphics are - unless both are truly broken.

Timing and pacing is also a must. It's no use having a great story if it isn't well paced to keep entertainment high.

The most important thing any game should have, though, is FUN FACTOR. Otherwise there's no use playing the game in the first place.

The level-up / progression system, skill/class system, and itemization. And of course balanced enemies to make use of all that.

So basically, numbers.
For RPGs it's Choice and Consequence. And an interesting setting will always make me more interested. (So if it isn't high fantasy or space opera I'm more inclined to be interested)

The other obvious one is "fun". It's sort of the stock answer since there's no point playing a game if you don't enjoy it. (So the more important thing is to think about "what makes you enjoy the game?")

Since the topic title actually said gaming I'll go into non-RPG territory. (Actually since it said gaming I might throw in board games just for the hell of it. But I guess not since it was posted in videogames subforum...) Of course it's hard to say what is the most important part. It really changes a lot depending on genres and the expectations these genres give.

I guess... Uh... It should have good controls. If I feel I can't do what I need to do and the controls are unresponsive I'll have a hard time playing a game. Except for some multiplayer games where you can play with friends and just laugh and have a good time while cursing the controls together.

I also think more games should have humour... But it's not really important is it.
