BARACK OBAMA DAY
Posts
So, I've studied politics and history.
At seven o'clock this morning, 200,000 people flooded Washington D.C.'s subway stations. They're anticipating anywhere from 1-2 million people for Barack Obama's inauguration. 40,000 public and private workers are employed for security detail today. It's currently 22 degrees F (=5 degrees C).
I have never witnessed anything like this before.

Truely an historic moment. Wierd how big this inaguration is maybe this will get us some credibility in the world.
This is definitely nuts. My girlfriend told me on her way back from Virginia to visit relatives, the highways were PACKED, and she even saw a few Secret Service agents. Like McDohl, I have never seen anything like this before either. I imagine Dulles Airport must be absolutely chaotic.

I actually think the fanfare over this is incredibly moronic. So what if he is black? It doesn't change the fact that there are gaping holes in his policies filled over with the words "LOL CHANGE HYPE!". Not that the other options were better, of course, but getting hyped up over a rather average politician is kinda silly if all it is based on is race...
I suppose that's how American politics works, though. As if it's a celebrity-based, reality TV show.
If you think that the fanfare is just because Barack Obama is black, then you know absolute shit about American politics and haven't been paying very close attention.

All this "hype" IS not because of Barrak Obama It Is because American is now supposedly living up to the promise that it was founded on that all poeple are created equal including African Americans who have had to struggle to gain their civil rights.
I did not vote for Barrak and feel that his policies are going to make this country much worse. That being said I hope I am wrong I hope this country inproves thoughout his presidency. Regaurdless this is an American historical moment one that should make all americans proud that we live in this country.

Yeah so do you have anything concrete to back this up, or are you just being contrary for no reason? I'm not saying there aren't any legitimate reasons to dislike his policies, but you're just going 'I'm contrary and cool'. Explain yourself.

It's sure as hell better than the way the country was ran for the last eight years! A lot of Obamas policies are in the step of the right direction, considering that we have a lot to catch up in the rest of the world. I applaud you for wishing him luck regardless, though!

I am not a hater I think Barrak is a good man and sincere in his plans for america.
Either way I am happy for america. Just to Clarify I am a conserative so Barrak's social stances make me nervous.
Obama is incredibly moderate on those issues, from what I've seen he plans to keep out of it and let the states decide
I wouldn't worry if I were you (unless you live in New England)

arrgh! I missed it!

author=captainregal link=topic=2938.msg57097#msg57097 date=1232472987This statement always amusing to someone outside of the US. :) (For the record, Obama's social stance is pretty damn conservative. But then, the US only has two political party types: ultra-convervatives (Republicans) and conservatives (Democrats))I did not vote for Barrak and feel that his policies are going to make this country much worse.
