BARACK OBAMA DAY

That is true as well! What US Conservatives think is liberal can actually still be...pretty conservative!

This statement always amusing to someone outside of the US. :) (For the record, Obama's social stance is pretty damn conservative. But then, the US only has two political party types: ultra-convervatives (Republicans) and conservatives (Democrats))
this is why I lol'd when I first heard the charge that Obama was a socialist
I was like, a socialist?! Look at Europe! Look at Canada!
He has done nothing yet. But yes, let's HOPE he puts things in the right direction.
ps it won't happen in the next four years. The problems surfaced long before Bush was in office.

its the result of Reaganomics, so yeah your right
it'll take a complete overhaul of our economy to fix it
we need to start actually manufactoring stuff again, which is why I'm so discouraged that congress is dragging thier feet on the auto maker bailout

Jus' sayin'.author=Fallen-Griever link=topic=2938.msg57087#msg57087 date=1232469598
I actually think the fanfare over this is incredibly moronic. So what if he is black? It doesn't change the fact that there are gaping holes in his policies filled over with the words "LOL CHANGE HYPE!". Not that the other options were better, of course, but getting hyped up over a rather average politician is kinda silly if all it is based on is race...
I suppose that's how American politics works, though. As if it's a celebrity-based, reality TV show.
Do you like being contrarian for the hell of it? Seriously, don't be so clueless.
It's the American media's fault. He was pretty detailed about all of his proposals during the primary and the general election, maybe not so much in his stump speeches (which are never really meaty), but definitely on his website and on policy meetings, which contained the most in-depth policy proposals I have ever been bored to tears reading, often being dozens of pages long. McCain's policy proposals, on the other hand, usually ranged from three to seven paragraphs and contained lots of patriotic rhetoric.
The lolblack argument is stupid and uninformed.

This is one of those oft-repeated myths that don't really stack up when the facts are all viewed, but it's nice for the rest of the world to want to pretend to be so progressive.

I believe he'll lead us to a better future.
It's an exciting day for us all.
One thing is for sure. There is too much hype. Regardless of whether you believe Barack is the second coming of Jesus, or the next Herbert Hoover, you have to acknowledge that.
There are enormous issues that face the new administration. A massive mess. Just wait for the results before you go building a golden idol of Obama in your front lawn.

Typically I don't care what race is Obama is, he could of been any race for all I care. As long as he tries and shows effort in fixing the economy for the country which has been spiraling down for many years now, we've been in a decline in business. It's just it's only now that it's bee reaching notable levels. As long as he does a good job then he's a good president to me. Now I believe that due to him being black being has instated a sort of equality feeling that everyone is talking about, which is how we should feel. No one is better than anyone else, and I believe this is finally taking a step in showing that this nation is truly diverse in people and goverment. However this is only my outlook and opinion on things. Being not an adult yet I do not now everything on that matter. Also a lot of people had been saying "Obama defies the Catholic religon", which I have heard from my Parish. The fact of it is, he's not supporting it but he's not forbidding it. He's giving everyone a choice to do so, if your Gay you should be allowed to be married or civil unions, if you want an abortion although I disagree with the fact of an Abortion and would rather go to other options as adoption, women should be allowed to make that choice.

We have dozens of left-wing fringe parties, but they all are too busy getting high to bother to fill out the required paperwork to make it on the ballot.
There is nothing really conservative about America, really. If you want to see conservatism in action, go to Saudi Arabia or Iran or any other explicit theocracy. Arguing over the shades of liberalism is pretty silly.
It is about time a rapper was in office.
Yeah, well, all the news we get over here about you guys is when your Prince calls someone a "Paki" or when someone comes out with another OMG DIANNA conspiracy book, so I guess I won't fault you.
Most of Obama's policy proposals are on PDFs on his website, not the actual html pages. Regardless, a quick glance at the leading parties in England have only educated me that Conservatives think Gordon Brown is the devil, and everything should pretty much fall into place when he is gone. Apart from their economic policy (which is probably too in-depth and has terribly small text) and a couple of others, most of their issues are attacked with two paragraph blurbs -- hey, just like McCain! Except the only issue he cared about was national security.
I am sure some people voted for Obama because he was black, but honestly I am sure there are just as many who didn't vote for him because he was black, so it kind of washes out in my opinion.

Also, a lot of the background information on him really seemed to make him look like an indecisive politician with an unremarkable past.
I'm not an expert on Obama but I can't recall any other African-American politicians who attended school in Jakarta and Honolulu, visited family members in Kenya or became the first black president of the Harvard Law Review in their sophomore year of college. That's not exactly what I would call an unremarkable past.
He's fairly international, for a president!
England is great because Prince Harry is hung like a Shetland pony

I watched the speech today (had to listen to the oath on the radio while driving home; I ran inside the house in a very dramatic way just to turn on the TV in time) and have decided that Laura cannot wear eyeshadow for the life of her.
harmonic: The Herbert Hoover comparison made me laugh. gg
