I demand that RSD VII become The Black Gate!
Do us the favor of naming it after something entertaining!
Any game where you can kill the creator's self-insert by dropping a sign on his head as a homage to the endeavours of the players in the previous games to kill him and an office accident gets a pass in my book
RSD VII Sleeping with Lord British or Beware the Dirty Diaper

Release Quest 7: The Princeless Bride
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
That was the second-best KQ game ever (Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow is the best).

Updated with RMN Snews - Issue #2, finished off The Great Purge, announced the next Map Design Fun (will it be Befuddle Quest 2?), and tentative dates for the next two featured games.
We haven't had a Play Something! in a while. Did people want to discuss and come up with themes, suggestions or ways to improve it (or ditching it altogether)?
Another thing we are discussing in the SUPER SECRET MOD HIDEOUT OF AWESOME is some sort of event that would encourage people to use their game pages (vs. the forums). So, something that promotes more reviews, blog posts and comments. Ideas?

I've been super busy, but I haven't forgotten it. But I would like it if people did stuff like discuss themes, suggestions, etc. I'll make it how you guys want it, just tell me what you want to see!

Interesting! I agree with this as well, this has potential.
Well, if I remember correctly, I think in our earlier brainstorming sessions, we came up with the idea of having themed Play Somethings, wherein the list of games would be of a particular genre.
For example, we would have theme of POST-APOC and list 5 games like Sore Losers, Iron Gaia etc.. etc..., or a theme of RETRO and list games like Generica or Dragon Fantasy. Or maybe even a theme of action or platformer games, and have Battle City 2k and Path of Glory and Frog, the Collector etc....
We could do a theme like that.
As to the ideas for Blogorama, we're kind of stuck as we are having trouble coming up with a motivation for posting blogs/comments vs. just posting in the forum. Having Newest Blogs on the front page is actually helping a lot, though.

Let's brainstorm some ideas, then. Our event calendar is very bare for the month of May.
Just to touch base on our existing events...
Release Something! is obvious, because it encourages people to release their work in a coordinated (and competitive) way with the benefit of generating feedback for their work -- if not a review or a mention in a podcast, at least some comments in the discussion thread.
Play Something! is a bit disorganized and disjoint, but it does generate some feedback. We could do better by defining some goals or guidelines for the participants, and some tangible benefits for participating.
Now, this "Write Something!" event - I know what our end goal is -- more Blog posts, more Comments, and more Reviews -- but what can we organize to get people to do it? What is their motivation?
Ideas?
- WIP's Review Callout a few months ago spurred a lot of people into action. Basically, we appealed to people's esteem and they responded by "showing WIP whatfor" and submitting a ton of reviews.
- Another Play Something! -- they tend to generate reviews as a side effect. Not so much with blogs, though.
- A Game Making Drive -- again, blogs are a side effect, and not guaranteed. Wouldn't get any reviews, and probably not many comments
- NEW IDEA: I had offered to gift MegaMan 9 on the Wii for that mapping contest (that fell through). I can offer that up again in a Review contest of some sort (most reviews? best review? most "good quality" reviews? or something...)
- NEW IDEA: Review Train. Kind of like the Guess the Game, but with writing reviews. I'll start by suggesting the game, and the first person to write an accepted review for it gets to suggest the next game that gets reviewed (they can suggest their own game, if they want). The first person to write a review for that gets to suggest the next game, and so on. (So it's like Guess the Game in that whoever guesses the screenshot gets to go next).
- NEW IDEA: Blogorama. People posts blogs. Why? I have no idea. What do they get out of it? No clue. But I guess there would be more blog posts in the end.
I didn't know it existed, but am now reading it thanks to it being randomly bumped.
Kinda useful, though.
