I didn't actually think the original demo was that difficult, the balance of the enemies was actually one of the things that I liked. Sure, the difficulty was high, but the difficulty was constant and the latter is more important. It certainly wasn't game-breaking in difficulty. But I had just finished playing through Vermicide and Everything Turns Grey so maybe my scope was a little off. I thought the problems in the demo were more with the storyline pacing and the fact a mass of characters are introduced all at once. But I've already said that in my review...

How far did you play, Griever? The beginning is fine, but later on it's simply broken. I'm gonna guess you didn't get very far into the game.

-Do not extend dialogue that doesn't fit inside of one message box (see your first screen). It's much easier to take in the information when it doesn't end mid sentence. Modify your dialogue so that it fits, you would be surprised at how much more professional (and how much easier on the reader) it is when you don't do this. Just end that sentence with "began" and modify the following sentence by replacing the next few words with something different.

Ugh. I actually make an effort to do this and have been for some time it is so utterly tedious and annoying and no one has ever noticed it or praised it in a review of any of my games. So, I guess I am saying, bely this advice.

Like Holbert, I have to chuckle at the people who bristled at your topic. Anyone who is turned off by the topic title is either looking for something to argue about, or insecure about their own Game Making skills. (And I expect to get some bristles in my direction for that comment)

Well I can hardly deny that I am almost always looking for something to argue about.

It's one of my many vices.

"Aerial ships of steel that shout lances of fire ply the skies, men wage war by the millions for mere ideas, while the rest starve...Unearthing relics of the past, man is doomed to repeat the mistakes that buried his ancestors. This series of events that are coming to pass have been prophesied as the Last Era. This tale is a chronology of the very events that transpired during that worlds darkest hour..."

This little paragraph totally kicks ass, Feld. It is masterfully written.

I myself have not played the demo, or at least I don't think I have. Whatever the matter may be, I plan to play your next demo. When do you think I will be available for all of us to play (release date, if you can tell the future, that is).
"Everybody is fucked up and has blood on their hands here."

Good to hear that (no sarcasm here). :) It's nice when characters have a good (realistic) mix of bad and redeeming qualities.

I remember playing the old demo a while ago, and just quit because of that ridiculous siren sound effect that plays when you're off running somewhere underground (and which made my roommate and I really annoyed). But that's not a terribly valid reason to stop playing, so I guess it's more accurate to say that I got bored despite wanting to like it, and was quite disappointed in it.

Concerning the new version, I still really like the overall style and I like the detail and thought you're putting into the world in its characters, so I'm really looking forward to play it. I'm sure it's a marked improvement over the old game, which was still not too bad anyway. But I def agree with Neophyte about pacing. Keep up the hard work!

PS about beta-testing: I wouldn't mind doing some if you wouldn't mind my potential slowness in playing it (school > gayms unfortunately). But I would like to help :)

-I don't really like the title screen I made! I see tons of games with cool logos, but I just don't have that artistic talent. Can anyone help me out with that?

I didn't like your title screen either so I made one for you!

It's not original art from me or anything (I don't have the talent), just a picture I found on DeviantArt, but that is how I do 90% of my title screens, and people seem to like them (I think?). But still it's got to be better than bahamut, right?

The art itself is by http://artbytheo.deviantart.com/ . I just resized, adjusted color depths, added text, etc.

As to what I chose, I was very much concentrated on your game's steam punk theme and very much took you at your word about your game involving steam punk and political intrigue. I am aware this is very subdued and abstract, but I think I like it. What do you think?

I was also working on a title screen. I also, oddly enough, found a background image from deviantart that I edited.

Here's the deviation page: http://tarrzan.deviantart.com/art/Airships-72523492
Might want to ask that talented person for their permission. I used a small portion of that image and changed the colors, saturation etc.

Well I do love me some FE8 facesets.
You're going to have some trouble picking a title screen here... but my vote goes to SF.

S.F.LaValle's text is much cooler than mine is.

I prefer my image and general color scheme.

I hope Feld will weigh in soon.
S. F. LaValle is getting S4D's vote!

Sorry Maxy Magee! It's just...so awesome, Feld will agree! ^^
SFL's text is way cooler, but Max, the artwork you used is fantastic.
Mix them up :D
Text always makes an image stand out more. If Max had SFL's text style, then we could compare the two, but right now It's not fair to ask which one looks "cooler"
*sigh* I guess I'll post mine here too.

whipped this up in 20 mins.

EDIT:

Yes, it is just some image I googled with a font from DaFont.com with basic glow, shading and stroke from Photoshop.
Wow! A lot of help regarding the title screens! It's a hard decision, but so far kentona's is looking the most swaggeriffic.

This is terrible. I refuse to read your post until you make this blurb not typo-riffic.
I do not know what you mean.
Yeah I'm actually looking forward to this. I got reasonably far in your current demo (Somewhere in the Ruins) but quit due to balance issues, which I know you already know about. I would have continued playing otherwise. Any ideas on a when new release will pop up? There's another Release Something! Day March 20th *nudge-nudge wink-wink*.

Keep at it!
I may be playing the role of 'dim' right now, but where can I find a link to the demo for this game? It looks like it could make a fun Sunday's lazing in front of the screen after a looong week :)

can't make a bad game if you don't finish any games

...How goes this endeavor of yours, Feld?
Well, I could try and beta if you wanted with a run-through or two :). It looks pretty nice overall.
The Last Great RM2K3 Game Ever Made.
I call bullshit. But I'm happy to hear you have made extensive progress since the last demo. Perhaps the aesthetics of the project have increased as well. From the looks of the screenshots everything is looking well, but the last impression I had of the game was that the battle system was clunky and battle animations bland. While it is not all the game is about, the action aspect is something that reels me in, hopefully a revamped and entertaining battle system is something we can expect with the new release.
