CloseAlright, so I've been working on a VX game for a week or so, and I neglected to make a backup. When I try to open the .rvproj file, I get an "Unexpected file format" error.

Just make a new project and replace the rvproj with the new one. Everything is stored in databases, so you should be ok.

Mind you, if it says unexpected file type, then check if your VX maybe got uninstalled. Otherwise, I have no idea.

Also, make backups frequently. Just like with rm2k/3 and XP, things can go wrong.
One nice thing is that corruption is usually limited to one aspect of the database or exe file, which means little work will have to be redone. But don't rely on that.

I replaced Game.rvproj, and now it's telling me "Failed to load armor data." I think this might be because I used KGC's equip extension to cut it down to just weapon, body and accessories, but even when I copied the KGC library's Game.rvproj, I got the same error.
EDIT: I made a copy and deleted its Armors.dat, but that didn't make a difference.

Everything RMVX saves is a bytestream so if you open it up in something like Wordpad you should be able to see some words (real words used not bizarre random character words). If you don't see anything like that, the file is most likely lost.
Did your computer/RMVX crash when you last used it? I had the same thing happen to me a while back with XP and I think RMXP shit a brick when I lost my data.

Send me the original project if you want, and I will see if I can fix it. Otherwise, no idea bud.
I fixed it last night, actually. I made a clean project, copied armors.rvdata... then it told me I needed enemies.rvdata and animations.rvdata and so on until half of my database and 2 maps were wiped clean. I still have the important stuff, though... well, some of it.
Damn.
