END THE 2009 MISAOS DO (RESULTS ARE IN!)

Could I make a suggestion that perhaps the main site should also have an item saying the voting is open?

I agree with Shinan.

I don't really care that Ghost was taken off the list for unfare reasons, since Barkley was getting most of my votes anyway.

But who the hell put Mage Duel in Game Design: Best Game Design? Oi. Legion/Dudesoft disagreements aside: That is the worst placement. Especially considering Pirates, Hello Panda and other great innovative games that came out. :) Has no one played a Cactus game even?

The most polite thing I can say about this comment is that if there is a wall dividing people by their definition of "Game Design" and you are on one side of it and clearly me and most of the site are on the other.

Whatever the fuck that means.

Anyway, I added the same Misao message to the site. Good thinking, Shinan.

I voted for RPG Maker games only (IIRC). I feel that Misaos, as awards given by members of an RPG Maker-focused community, should be limited to RPG Maker, else where do we draw the line? Amateur game making is huge, and there are tons of non-RM games which heavily outclass RM ones. If we were serious about awarding worthwile amateur games, no RM game (objectively) should get any Misao.

I'm wondering how others feel about this?

Next issue is the Worst Game of the Year Category. What does it even mean? Should it be the REALLY worst game? Or the worst game of those well-known and hyped? Because if the former is true, then hundreds of "first games" are released each year, and nominating any of them would serve no purpose, although it'd be in the spirit of the category (because those games are truly abysmal). If the latter is true, then it's virtually no different than the Biggest Disappointment category.

@Dudesoft - go back to making shitty cross-over fangames /polite

If I'm not supposed to be able to vote for myself, how come the system let me vote for Sore Losers? Might want to take a look at that.
I don't really get the community's obsession with not being able to vote for your own things. I understand not being able to nominate your own things but voting?

You pretty much can.

I did look it up, it got nominated by a couple nobodies. It worries me that great indie games aren't being considered, Ghost in a Bottle aside. I mean, even Pirates was nominated in other areas, but not one the one I really want it to win. Oh well! C'est la vie.

The problem is, this is a bunch of opinionated dreck.

Like I said, if you think the games you like deserve more than what they got, not advertising them or showing them on RMN is a bad way to go about getting them noticed.

RMN's intention was never to limit it to RPG Maker games, despite the site's name. Any and all FREE games made within a Maker (not just Rm2k3, but also Game Maker, ika, Multimedia Fusion, etc.) apply. Iji and Spelunky and such are perfectly applicable, and we do have a small minority in this community that do not use the standard stuff, and I don't think they should be barred, really.

However, the rules are subject to a degree of change. Feel free to voice your concerns in Site Feedback if you think it is an issue that should be clarified. More people will probably notice these comments there.

I think the idea is that 'worst game' is for the most technically deficient game. 'Biggest disappointment' is more about opinion, I suppose, but is usually for games that have a lot of hype and don't back it up when they are released.

what does the wisao category "worst case of vaporitis" mean?

what does the wisao category "worst case of vaporitis" mean?

It should be obvious?

Basically, games that were heavily advertised but never appeared.

just look up 'fates of alerha' in the dictionary
You don't need to worry about justifying it.

It won't penalize you in anyway.

There's nothing "honorable" or "humble" about purposely voting for someone else when you genuinely believe yours is the best in that category. That's called FAKING IT. This isn't Japan, where you're supposed to talk down your own work as a social protocol.

Craze is about to say BUT OMG TEH RULEZ OMG
I think what was meant by "honor system" here is that the rule wasn't enforced but it's generally polite to follow a rule/request even when there isn't anything stopping you from breaking it.
It's not really an issue of honor.

Honestly, if you really believe you deserve the win, vote for yourself. It's not THAT big a deal.
