I wonder if we should change the Makerscore by a certain percentage for posters that consistently cause topics to be derailed? Like say 5% to 10% (downward, of course)? I'm actually afraid of posting topics as it is.

... How is this related to Makerscore at all?

My fellow citizens,

There are many victims in this disaster. Our community must band together, and stay strong against the bitter harshness that has been wrought upon us. We must help our friends and family, our neighbors and all of our citizens rebuild in the wake of such fierce destruction. But this is America rpgmaker.net. I know great things are possible because I have seen the mettle of our users. Trolling and antagonism may have won this battle, but, my friends, we will not lose the war. Our best days are yet to happen.

God bless you. And may God bless America rpgmaker.net!

It's just an idea how to deter derailing topics, since RMN has no warning system. I suppose another way is to remove said posts from the person's (or persons') post count. It wouldn't be permanent, of course.

Karsuman is 100% on the spot here. I am tired of all these legit topics that are getting locked because everyone feels the right to be a total asshole when expressing their opinions.
Sometimes, expressing an unpopular opinion makes you seem like an asshole even when you're not trying to be. There are a lot of entrenched dogmas that need challenging.

Removing the posts from the person's post count would be a much better idea, markerscore shows the person's contributions. Whether he or she is a dick or not, that person's Markerscore shouldn't be affected by the shit he/she posts.
Why not just establish a warning system? The forum could use quite a few basics it doesn't currently have.

No, this isn't the purpose of Makerscore. This won't be happening.

This is fine, but not at the expense of topic creators.

Also, there is a line that people shouldn't cross when it comes to posting in topics. But now, they aren't just stepping across the line, they are taking a shit there, too.

Seriously, if it is GOING to derail a thread, just make a topic. Our Game Design forum can use a few more posts.

Ask WIP about this one. ;)

Okay Mog, let me know when you have it coded and integrated perfectly with the rest of the site. I'll be happy to upload it.

That's a cop-out. I appreciate your commitment to playing devil's advocate and FIGHT THE POWER, but most of the people involved in these scandals are quite proud of their bastard status.

Hey, you know what, you're right, and I apologize. I understated the complexity in coding a site, and especially in dealing with compatibility between a site and a forum. I wasn't thinking of that. So yeah, my bad.

However, in lieu of a warning system and all that, until that time comes, is there a way to formally establish a protocol for off topic topics? Is there a way for topics to be split when this happens?

This is what this topic exists for, Mog. >>

FTR, we can't just 'split' topics, per se. It's just not a functionality built into the site.

Edit: Apparently, this is not the case. WIP was hiding the truth from us. :o

Edit 2: But he's not going to too lazy to dig it out.

(Basically, the functionality exists but adapting it to the site would be a huge hassle, so we're shit outta luck)

Actually, Karsuman, most people DON'T have precognition.

My point dear Karsuman was that one can't always tell whether or not a comment will derail a thread before one makes it. I certainly have never thought that any of my comments would derail a thread. So your "just don't do it" strategy doesn't work that well.
I don't think you get me.

that one can't always tell whether or not a comment will derail a thread before one makes it.

I know this. I am saying that in the instance where it IS obvious, the person shouldn't do it. Do I really need to get into a semantics argument in this thread?

Summary: Self-control of posters is important as well.

I think in the instances where it is obvious, it is usually also on purpose.
Maybe, but that's also what will probably get people banned.

Now lets get back to the topic's purpose, folks.

I am pretty much against lowering a person's postcount as a 'warning system'. Not only is it a hidden-ish number, it just... please explain to me what it would do and how it would modify behavior. :<

I'm in favor of a slightly stricter verbal warning/day ban/week ban/4lief ban system that we seem to (loosely) have in place.
It'd be easier to just delete the comments/posts made, wouldn't it? That'd be the 'consequences of your actions' - not having your opinion heard/read. With enough deletions it'd probably sink in that "Hey, I seem to have a problem here...".

Though, it'd be more work on the moderators part, unless power of a topic was given to the topic maker, but even then, coding it would probably be a bitch.

Or, we could all try to tone down our reactions to other peoples' posts and/or hide anything you'd consider inflammatory-ish in a spoiler.

Or something.

But yeah, it is getting a bit ridiculous.
