'IMPORTANT DISCUSSION' TIME GUYS...
Posts
I am highly NOT in favor of topic creators being able to delete ANY posts. Sorry, Liberty, but if the userbase can't control their discussions, do you think that they can control their trigger finger?
Also I have had many bad experiences with deleted posts in the past. Other people deleting posts even got me banned for a day, once--and I had done nothing!

But what if your entire post is off-topic? Do you just post a spoiler? In the game dev forums, I know that as a creator of many topics that I'd be pissed if I saw that I got three-four new replies and they all turned out to be off-topic spoiler tags.
No they can't. We just spoke about that.
And the PM system isn't broken.

Wait, what? I was just saying that being told "x doesn't like y for z reason" is helpful because it can help you in future developments. Creators can, of course, always choose to ignore helpful criticism should they so wish.
If you didn't like RTS games, and someone made an RTS game advertisement, how much sense would it make if you posted saying you wouldn't play because you didn't like the RTS genre? Which is pretty much what happened in the DOAD topic, except replace RTS with cutesy anime art. How would it be "helpful criticism" to tell the creator to change the genre he/she created in for future games? It's obvious you had a prejudice before the game was ever made known. Nothing helpful could've been gained from that, because it defeated the entire purpose of advertising the game in the first place.
If you didn't mind the graphical style, but there were certain consistency and/or "weird" errors in the sprites/drawings such as strange body parts or color clashes, then yes, commenting on those would've been helpful criticism. In fact, that was done in the topic in reference to the HUD, and the reactions to those were positive. However, the problems began when that was completely dodged, and the art style itself was attacked. Which eventually led to the fallacy described in the above paragraph.
No, the artist just posted a game-topic without any specific request for any specific type of feedback. The feedback then happened to focus on the anime artwork. If someone makes a topic specifically stating that they want feedback on the gameplay then, yeah, going onto a slant about other parts of the game is slightly off-topic (but should still be expected).
You've misunderstood Mayor's statement. Refer to the above; the target genre/style is separate from the artwork (content) and gameplay. Also, ask yourself this: Who would really restrict incoming criticism like this? Commenting on a game involves giving criticism to all aspects, as they're all interconnected, example being the HUD and its interactive design. As long as you give criticism that helps, then there should not be any problem.

See what I mean about not knowing when other people are going to jump in...
...?
Could you please elaborate on how exactly I "jumped" in on you? O_o
Honestly (and I'm being honest) I wish the forum was more open towards heated debate. I mean it seems sometimes sort of a cop out seeing an otherwise on point topic get locked and City Dumped because an argument got a little bit too heated.
I mean I understand that topics shouldn't devolve into a giant shitfest with personal insults and posts with mostly curse words or whatever but sometimes I feel a few too many topics have been locked because of what seems like 'WOAH PLAY NICE KIDS YOU CAN'T DISAGREE TOO HARSHLY EVERYONE TIME FOR A TIME OUT'.
I mean this isn't a complaint that's exclusive to here, it just seems like a lot of communities seem irrationally afraid of 'net battles' or whatever.

The community you originally came from got infamous for net battles, Mog. I don't want the same thing to happen to RPG Maker Network. I just want to know why a community in this day and age didn't have a warning system up and running from day one.
Sometimes topics evolve, which is when we should allow further discussion... and other times they devolve, in which case they should rightly go into the City Dump if no other moderation option is available.

I sincerely disapprove of any "internet battles" that may have occured in the past few days since my re-emergence in the RPG Maker community. It's utterly pointless, especially for a population that is deserving of a forum where one can actually discuss the focal point of the site in question without entering a futile "my opinion is better than yours" situation, not to mention how it's awfully embarrassing to read.
Thinking of RMN as "being a place you can discuss various viewpoints no matter how serious or how little knowledge we have of them because COME ON ITS A DISCUSSION FORUM *smugface*" is an incredibly stupid idea. If that was how things worked, how come you don't throw stones at your neighbours' window because of their preference of LORD OF THE RINGS over DONNIE DARKO or some shit? "heh the world is an open discussion forum....*loads pistol*"

Well yeah, that's where the bullshit starts and the benign discussion ends. I was just mentioning that we shouldn't be afraid of an inevitable difference of opinion, and in some cases, friendly debate.
Or you could just post your games in the Game Manager and not make threads that will get derailed or ignored.
Honestly it works. I've got like 60 downloads and no drama on something released a week or so ago.
This is why topic threads for your games are unproductive; if people were really serious about giving feedback wouldn't they go and look at your game pages to research and then play it?
On average we really aren't all that interested in playing each others games, but we LOVE to make our opinions (usually stated as fact) very clear. Just use the Games section.

<3 Anaryu.
In response to your statement Mog, I am fine with people bickering back and forth and flaming the shit out of each other. As long as it involves the topic at hand. The DOAD topic went off from the topic at hand, which was the game.

Considering you don't know the difference between a postgraduate student and a research fellow
No one cares.
Get back on topic and stop trading insults.
