NUDITY IN GAMES
Posts
Nudity in games wouldn't bother me at all, though it's nothing I would do.
I guess it just depends on how it's used.

There are several instances I can think of where there has been some degree of nudity within games.
The Sims and The Sims 2 has been famously patched to give the characters extra 'details' once the blurs have been removed by in-game codes. Mass Effect has sex scenes within it, though they are extremely tame. Dead or Alive has seen it's girls nude before now too. Oh, and you can have off screen sex in Fable as well, even gives you the option to wear a condom too!
As previously stated, the naked human body is indeed a beautiful thing, however, in games it's usually just a way to generate enough controversy to sell more copies of a particular title than would otherwise be possible. For example, Manhunt only sold so well because it was banned. People were simply curious to see just how brutal it could be for the papers to jump all over it like that.
Games companies are guilty of using sex to sell a game, some titles relying entirely upon sex appeal to sell. Yes, DOA Beach Volleyball, but more recently, we have a game focused entirely around bikini clad samurai!

The Japanese even have strip poker games and various hentai dating sims. There's a market for it.
Nudity has never been done tastefully or with good reason within video games (or at least, none that I have played), and I for one don't believe it ever will be.

Yeah, so Karsuman and I have decided that the girls in our RS!VI offering are going to be loosing clothes but not necessarily get nekkid. It seems that you guys are all slightly perverted, but not that perverted (so true).
My personal feelings: considering that most suggestivenessosity is for females, it's a pretty big turn-off for me. That said, a naked male hero would probably be pretty awkward for anybody! Guys with the right pants on are more attractive anyway.
What are the right pants? Or does it vary based on the situation?
Max: If you are seriously asking me that, I would be happy to make a topic in moronic about The Right Pants.

So, what do you guys think this? Not necessarily about my conundrum, but about nudity (or the lack thereof) in games in general?
No.
I agree with what some of you guys are saying. Putting nudity in video games is pretty lame. Games, while they are for entertainment (as is pornography and other nude stuff), are revolved around fun. Nudity isn't really "fun", it's awesome don't get me wrong, but it's just not for games. Leave it out, plain and simple.
Sexy pictures in games, though? Not sure. I'm sure they're okay.

However, now that it's being mentioned, nudity in settings like God of War (considering the mythology) isn't really that big of a deal all things considered. After all, it's just a naked body at the end of the way.

By all means, be my guest.
Shading is off.

And that's all I have to say.
Hmm, I don't like this style of art. Hence, I will not be playing Sore Losers.
Also, the sprites are too colorful and chibi for me to take the story seriously.

You can pose many ways naked ya know.
Ye it must be training execise for the hero cause that chick is like a walrus. The fat is dripping from her legs.
I personally don't mind, but you already made a point, "what you make affects your audience." Videogame companies probably worry more about not doing this cause if it fails on them in getting more crowds, they will lose money. I don't see what would be the big deal in releasing an indie game with nudity on it. You can try partial nudity, if anything haha.
Nudity in games is the same as in any other form of art/storytelling: If it's done tastefully and has a good reason to be there, and your target audience isn't ten-year-olds, then there's no pressing reason why it should be stigmatized. The only reason it would feel tasteless if it IS tasteless or out-of-place.
For an example, the original Japanese version of Earthbound had Ness naked in Magicant. This made sense in Japan, since (from my experience) Japanese culture has less of a problem with non-sexualized nudity and tends to portray people in dreams as being nude in the first place. Granted, seeing that in the American version would have been weird, but that's due to cultural differences.
The thing is that there just aren't many opportunities FOR tasteful nudity in games. I'm sure there's some theoretical situation where censoring the nudity would seem more out-of-place than the nudity itself, but I can't think of any off the top of my head.
