As many have said already, the number of projects you should be working at the same time should always be expressed as a single digit in binary. I think incorporating the new ideas into the current project is a great way to get around the temptations; and don't be afraid to shift the current project's future paths if they deem fit.
GAH!! SCOPE CREEP!

This is a sure-fire way of making a 3 month project into a 3 year project.

If you keep incorperating ideas into a current project it will never be done. I went down that road and I still haven't even got half way through Guardia because of it. BTW Max do you have the second demo of Eldritch on you by some chance. Wouldn't mind playing that again.
One should be well aware that to keep adding on to the planning stage would result in a vapour-ware, needless to say.

However, if you are actually working through the actual project (as you should be at some point), and half-way through you find yourself loosing motivation due to new idea s and themes keeping you on the edge of your seat, I think it is a smart practice to always keep a look-out for ways to incorporate them into the current projects rather than starting anew, or keeping the distracting restlessness.

Now, if that requires a major overhaul of the current project as some seem to get the impression of, then that is not what I meant by incorporating; it is rather closer to a revamp. Hence, it isn't relevant.

When I say incorporate, I mean merely adding the ideas to the path of a project in a linear fashion if it allows. Sure, it could shift the path of the current project, but would you rather stop working on/wasting the effort spent on that project completely (as I'm sure many should have experienced by now), or renew that passion and at least focus fire to continue on what you've spent your life working on for the past few months?

It is merely the lesser of the two evils where it fits to be done.

3) Start a .txt, write down all your ideas, and stash it away. Open it when you get more ideas, and stash it again. Once you have some free time, start the project then.

It works for me.

You have 3 games, none of which are finished. Just thought I would point that out.

For the love of Einstein,do not incorporate a Mecha-based TBS into Everything Turns Grey.

Agreed.

As for the original question, I would say stick to one game at a time, and get them finished before moving on.

Who said I made just RM Games?

I know 3 is what I should do, but well, I don't know...it's hard to use your free time to work on something you don't feel like doing.

Game making shouldn't be work or a chore, it's a hobby so work on what you want. This is my philosophy anyways, and thus I work on whatever I feel like, providing a variety of interesting results.
So Iron Gaia 2 is never going to be finished? =[

*A girlfriend! (If people have been dating more than a couple years, are they engaged by default? :P )

No, not at all. I dated someone for seven years and then she cheated and told me through email lmao. Watch yer back, old friend.

I don't feel like posting a new topic for this question...

would anyone feel like seeing an in-depth explanation in text of any of my game worlds? I've noticed a lot of people do this on this/the game ideas forum and while I've never done it (and I must admit, I rarely read and often skim these myself) it seems like kind of a cool idea.

I'd read it, but I don't know how many others would do so.
I'd probably be likelier to read such a thing if it WAS posted by you or a slim handful of other RMN'ers. On the whole, I don't read em', though.

Still wondering about this. Looks like one conditional nay and two conditional ayes.

DO WHAT YOU WANT is not helpful advice for people who are being really indecisive. Seriously, if I was to do something like this, it wouldn't be half-assed, it would be pretty in depth. I don't want to write a giant wall of text no one reads or comments on.

I guess you just made the decision - if you are truly worried that no one will read it with care and attention, then your probably right. Write it for yourself as an exercise in design...and revise it constantly, refer to it as you work, and use it to solidfy your ideas.

After you have gotten a lot of use out of it for yourself, then post it on RMN, because by that time you will feel it was not a wasted effort, as you gained something from it already. Feedback and comments after that point is just icing.
