THE WII...ANY GOOD?
Posts
Hi, we just got a Wii, and I gotta say, I'm really enjoying it. However, whenever I tell my friends we got it, they seem to be under the impression that it's boring and kiddish, after which they go back and play their 360's and PS3's. So I wanna know your opinion. Do you think the Wii is worthy of the $350, or do you think it's boring & kiddish?
First off in the states the wii is only 250. I don't know if it is worth 350 although I would have still bought it. The wii needs to put out alot more games (that I will acually want to play.) This year or I won't be using my wii that much this year either.
Wii games I've bought this year.
Rune Factory
Pikmin
Some Vc Titles. (SOM, Ect..)
And that is it boy's and girls.

I had a Wii for a year and a half and enjoyed it for a little under a year. After I got my 360, it just kind of sat there collecting dust for months. I had some fun with it, especially with Metroid Prime 3 and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, but the flow of games that interested me was far too slow.
The Wii does have a lot of "kiddish" games, but that doesn't mean they aren't fun. Since Nintendo's such a family fun-oriented copmany, they don't have nearly as many exploding zombies and such. But, it all depends on your tastes, and anyone who says it's lame just because they don't like it is just stuck in their ways.
I have an amazing amount of fun with the Virtual Console. The Wii Classic Controller is the best traditional controller ever made.
I wish I had a Wii now, it's got MadWorld, No More Heroes, that balls hard Fire Emblem game (that people bitch about so much that it's just inviting me to play it), you got the Okami and RE4 ports which people say are miles better than the ps2/GC ones, you have Brawl and Galaxy, and for me I miss my gamecube. It'd be nice to scream at F-Zero GX again.
Don't know why you listen to your friends since they don't even own a Wii

I'm still playing Wii - mostly Brawl, DQ Swords, Dokapon Kingdom. Oh and MEGAMAN 9. My PS3 collects more dust than my Swiffer.
Then again, I'm old and don't play video games.

For gaming I find the Wii to be a great complement to a PC. You get your "proper" games on the PC and you fire up the Wii for a couple of minutes of fun every now and again. I'd guess though that if I had any of the other consoles (360 or PS3), the Wii would probably get less playtime.
Since my most played game is multiplatform. (Guitar Hero)
I have to admit I just can't get used to the Wii as a "Actually playing" console. I guess I'm just not as comfortable with the controls as I hoped I'd be and I think I figured out why. Being left-handed I want to point on the screen with my left "pointer hand" but I also (due to 20 years of console gaming) want to move around with my left thumb.
I actually noticed how ingrained certain control schemes are into my brain when I tried to play some PS3 the other day. I just can't get my thumb over to the left stick after playing lots of games with the GameCube controller (And since I played an FPS, Mirror's Edge, I also wanted to strafe with the right stick which was how it was done back in Perfect Dark, which was the last Console FPS I played :D)
That was a tangent.
But I find the games I enjoy the most don't require the "point and move" (Excite Truck, Umbrella Chronicles, Brawl with GC controller, Guitar Hero) and those that do feel clumsy (Mario Galaxy)

When I lived with my dad, my little brother had a Wii, when I moved out, my housemate had a Wii. I say had because they both got bored of it and sold it to get a 360, as did almost everyone else I know who has ever owned a Wii.
Here's my problem with the Wii. All the best ttiles have come and gone, and none of them made a huge impact on me. Galaxy failed to hold my interest, I preferred Sunshine. Twighlight Princess was alright. Problem there was I had the GameCube version (and wish I still did, it's worth a few pennies now). Metroid Prime 3? Never finished 1 and 2, I prefer my Metroids in 2D. I prefer Melee to Brawl, it just feels faster and more fluent (and yes you can argue it with me, it just didn't feel right to me at all). Mario Kart? Using the wheel was fun for ten minutes. I admit I have an interest in Resi: Umbrella Chronicles, but haven't had a chance to play it. Resi 4 was a rerelease of a game I already beat twice (GC and PS2) and the fantastic Resi 1 remake and Resi 0 were for GC. The Wii has absolutely sod all to tempt me with.
My 360 on the other hand has offered me a ton of fun that's just not avaialble on Wii. We're talking Assassin's Creed, Blue Dragon, Burnout Paradise, Call of Duty 4 and 5, Condemned 1 and 2, Dead Rising, Devil May Cry 4, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit, Eternal Sonata, Fable 2, Fallout 3, Far Cry 2, Fear 1, Files and 2, Gears of War 1 and 2, Grand Theft Auto 4, Halo 3, Left 4 Dead, Lost Odyssey, Naruto: Rise of a Ninja and Broken Bond, Overlord, Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2, Resident Evil 5, Saint's Row 2, and Skate. Also, the third Banjo-Kazooie is on 360.
Yes, the Wii's Virtual Console has a great selection, but I already own most of those titles, and the Wii should thrive on new exciting experiences rather than making you pay out again for past glories.
The Wii also suffers downgraded versions of certain titles, for example, the Guitar Hero and Rock Band games, Dead Rising, or Sonic Unleashed. Granted they aren't huge releases, but why pay the same price for a commonly worse and cut down version of the game?

author=Sam link=topic=3544.msg70980#msg70980 date=1239906997See, not one of those titles interest me - except Burnout Paradise. And it wasn't nearly as good as Burnout 3: Takedown.

I guess the lesson here is F-G's:
"A console is only as good as its games; look at the release list and decide from that."
Videogames always give different experiences to folks of different tastes. I like my 360 but my Wii definitely gets more use out of me. The games just resonate with me better.
So what you should do, is look at the different games for the systems. Whichever system has more games that make you say "I would like that", get it.
Now for the obligatory pissing contest.
Metroid Prime 3 has better controls than every 360 FPS. Resident Evil 4 on the Wii is better than RE5 and all the other versions of RE4. Anime games are shitty shovelware. The latest Guitar Hero and Rock Band games on the Wii are near identical to the other systems sans for HD. The Virtual Console is fantastic and I am pretty sure you don't own Sin & Punishment, Sam. You can actually play some games from back when most developers actually put soul into their games.
All I am saying is that nobody was shitting on any systems until you started to. And it's very easy to attack your statements with the same sort tactics that don't go anywhere.

I like my Wii for just farting around on; Elebits and Wii Fit are both really awesome. I also own Twilight Princess, but I don't like it very much... Wii Play Tanks > Zelda any day.
I play my PS2 more often, though, and my DS gets the most use of any game-playing device I ouwn.

IF you're JUST jumping in on the Wii right now, and your gaming tastes aren't limited to M-rated shooters or sandbox games, you'll have a lot of good games to pick from. Unfortunately, neither Nintendo nor third parties have released many good quality games lately. There's a chance Nintendo of America may abandon core gaming entirely, given their recent localization decisions (bye, bye, Fatal Frame IV, Soma Bringer, Glory of Heracles, Disaster ... )
Having a Wii + one of the HD consoles will have you mostly set this gen.

author=iishenron link=topic=3544.msg70995#msg70995 date=1239917850You mean Wii + PC. Where else are you going to get your Total War and Football Manager fix?

(and you don't get that fix from "Total Warrior" or "Football Manager Portable")
*whistles* wow. Lotsa replies. I gotta say, I really enjoy my Wii, simply because it has...
BRAWL
I love my Brawl, and it loves me. Together, we spend hours of fun and excitement. I just recently gave her the wedding ring, and she was so happy that we played for the remainder of the night. We also went on a date to Hyrule Temple, where she played as Mario and I Link. It was romantic.

You get my point. I happen to very much enjoy my Brawl. However, we do own some other fun games, but they're all for gamecube which, thank God, is supported for Wii. I'm talking good titles like Call of Duty 2, Splinter Cell 2, and Time Splitters 2. Aside from that, my sister also had a hand in picking out the Wii games, and she went for "family fun", so we also got Wii Sports, Wii Play, and Mario Party 8. (I wonder when Mario Party's finally gonna kick the bucket eh?)
So...yeah. I enjoy my Wii.

I hardly play the Wii. The games I got (that includes Brawl) get old fast. Wii lacks the Nintendo magic that I remembered back in the 90s. I think the last time I played my Wii was in February to beat Brawl or something.
