SWINE FLU

I live in Houston, ya know the city where that Toddler died.
I have asthma and am susceptible to the influenza virus.
Needless to say, I am getting a little more than nervous.

A masks doesn't help at all (studies prove this). It spreads through contact and it isn't really be spread by being airborne.
Yeah, from what I've heard... Rather nasty. There are over 100 suspected cases in my country Australia already. However, I'm not TOO worried. To me, this "epidemic" is very similar to the Bird Flu and SARS ones, where casualties were fairly low and the whole situation was hyped up too much and blown way out of proportion.
I seem to remember a few years back a Sars outbreak was hyped in a similar way and then nothing happened, at least not in the US or Europe.
I'm not worried.

I heard that the Swine Flu doesn't have the viral code necessary to match the 1918 outbreak that killed millions of people around the world, and also that over 30,000 people die of the "regular" flu each year.
Albeit slightly more infectious, the same strategy to avoiding the winter flu applies here: Wash your hands, keep distance from those coughing/sneezing, if possible, and WASH YOUR HANDS.

Exactly what I'm saying. No need to worry yet, as we've all seen outbreaks be hyped up before and not actually do much in the long run. There are only 7 confirmed deaths of swine flu right now whilst more people are dying of just the regular flu.
So long as you look after yourself and keep healthy, and live in a first world country with a good health system, nothing should even bother you.

I heard that even though it is a combination of the swine, bird, and human flu, H1N2 won't kill you unless you would die from the flu normally (i.e. you are very old, very young, or very sick). As such, I think the media is just hyping it up waaaay too much. Just like they do with everything else.
Good ol' H5N1? It's still kickin'
I'm only somewhat concerned about "hamthrax" because my wife is pregnant (and prone to illness, but don't tell her that).

There's about 200 cases in Japan. It would probably carry quite fast if it took off in Greater Tokyo.
I find that if you're not building a deck or landscaping, you shouldn't really have to worry about swine flu.
