BLACK SCREEN INTRO - HOW TO SHOW TEXT? (RPG2K3)

My question is fairly simple. I created an event, and set it to hide screen. This gives me the entire screen blacked out, as I want it to be. My problem is that any text I use during this is also blacked out, and can't be seen.
So what I'm asking is, is there a way to entirely black out the screen, yet make your text visible? So that I can create a small intro to my game with a little story to it, without there being anything in the background?
I have thought about creating a new map, and using a custom background, like a space scene, then having my story pop up there. The problem with that is that I would have to edit the party so there's no visible hero just floating in my background. So to me it seems a heck of a lot easier to just black out the entire screen.
I'm new to this whole thing though. Just started my game a few days ago. However I own AgeTec's RPG Maker for Playstation, so I'm familiar with quite a few of the things you can do with events. But on the Playstation version, it was much easier to black out a screen and have text scroll across it in an almost Star-Wars-esque presentation.
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Are you referring to the "Tint Screen" option? I've tried that but it still shows the map you start on before it fades to black. Or is this a code I need to know? Pardon my ignorance, but like I said I am new, so I'm not too familiar with the code quite yet. And I've searched the entire events list of actions it can perform. None of them say "Set Screen Tone" or anything similar to what you said.
Yes, I am referring to tint screen. Just set the screen tone to all 0's before teleporting to that map. Or, if it's the first map of the game, use a blank map. OR, you could just use a parallel process event, but if you don't know what they do, you could run into problems.
Alright thanks, that seems easy enough. I have another question now though. I've finally got the screen to blacken, as well as make the hero's sprite transparent. (It actually appears for a split second at the very beginning, but I think I can fix that myself.)
Basically my event keeps looping, and I've tried to stop it. Here's the code so far:
<>Sprite Transparency: Transparent
<>Tint Screen: (R000, G000, B000, S100) 0.0 Sec
<>Message: Test.
<>Message: More Test.
<>Teleport 0003:Town (036,074) Down
<>Sprite Transparency: Opaque
<>Tint Screen: (R100, G100, B100, S100) 1.0 sec
<>End Event Processing
Basically what I'm trying to do is obviously blacken the screen and the hero sprite, so I can put a little text introduction. Then it teleports to the town you start in, and would continue as normal.
The problem is this code loops continuously. It works the first time through, teleports to the town, makes the hero and town visible again etc. But then the screen just goes black again and it keeps saying "Test." over and over. I thought the "End Event Processing" would tell the event to stop, but it didn't.
I also tried adding a switch in there where it would go to the 2nd page of the event, which has nothing in it, and maybe that would stop it. But it hasn't altered the outcome at all.
Thanks again for your previous help, and any ideas on how to stop this event from looping would also be greatly appreciated.

Eh nevermind. I figured out my problem in that case. I forgot to delete the original event that I placed in the town (as that was the starting map, I tried to black that one out first), and it turns out that after I teleported there, that was the event that kept looping in blackness.
Once I deleted that, the new event worked perfectly so far.
Thanks again AznChipmunk, I owe you one. :)

Yeah.
If you want to make the hero not appear right away, in the database, don't start your party with anybody in it. Then when you want him to appear, add him to the party.

Ah, that helps a lot! Thanks again, it was a bit weird seeing a little man pop in and out of existence right before the text appeared. I was contemplating just leaving him standing in the middle of the screen, as if he were narrating.
But your idea gives me exactly what I wanted. Thanks. :D
