Liverpool 0-0 Birmingham
YUP WE RULE thanks for choosing this week! :D

thanks for playing right into my hands kent. 5 goals is the second highest amount of goals that week so yeah, it is a high scoreline. what point were you making again?
That soccer is a low scoring snoozefest.
haha do you even know how hard it is to score? oh no incredible feats of defending and goalkeeping we can't have this where are the soft goals

in fact you have given me a good example. that Liverpool-Birmingham game was one of the most exciting games I've had the pleasure of witnessing. nobody scored. it's not about the goals you great prune!
well, incredible feats of knocking the ball away notwithstanding, goals are much more exciting given that the point of the game is to win, and to win you need to score more goals than your opponent.

And if you are looking for awesome goaltending, watch hockey.
i am not even going to go here with you because it would mean explaining in its entirety why people watch football. no thanks.
Judge rejects Balsillie's bid to buy Coyotes

Canadian billionaire Jim Balsillie's bid to buy the Phoenix Coyotes and relocate the NHL team to Hamilton was rejected Monday by an Arizona bankruptcy judge.Balsillie, the co-CEO of Research In Motion Ltd., maker of the BlackBerry smartphone, imposed a June 29 deadline to complete the sale - hoping to speed up the process and have the team ready to play in Hamilton for the 2009-10 season.

But in a ruling handed down Monday evening, Judge Redfield Baum said, "This court is unconvinced that it should order that the NHL must decide the relocation application to meet the June 29 deadline."

"Simply put, the court does not think there is sufficient time for all of these issues to be fairly presented to the court given that deadline," Baum said in the 21-page document. "The motion is denied, without prejudice."

So Basillie's roundabout attempt at relocating the Coyotes has failed. He still can go through other channels to go through with this, but that means Bettman has to agree and Bettman gets to set the terms. So good luck with that.
So, in the end NOTHING was resolved.

Judge Baum threw out the $242.5 million (US) bid by Balsillie, saying it could not work because he could not properly satisfy the NHL's rights regarding relocation. "In the final analysis, the court cannot find or conclude that the interests of the NHL can be adequately protected if the Coyotes are moved to Hamilton without first having a final decision regarding the claimed rights of the NHL and the claims of the debtors and (Balsillie)," he ruled.

He then ruled that the NHL's bid of $140 million would not work because it allows the league to specifically select which of the creditors will be paid. The NHL said it would pay all their creditors in full - with the exception of former head coach Wayne Gretzky and majority owner Jerry Moyes.

"There has been no determination that the Moyes and Gretzky claims are not 'legitimate creditors.' It would be inherently unjust for this court to deprive them of their possible rightful share of any proceeds without first providing all involved a fair trial on their claims."

So, basically, we are back where we started with no bidders (the other potential bidders all dropped out over the summer), a failing team in bankruptcy and a mountain of debt. Yay. But I understand the ruling - it just sucks. I was really rooting for Basillie...well, I was really rooting against Bettman, who is a turd.
I glossed over most of this topic, but moving a team to Hamilton would remove a great deal of Toronto's fan base, since Hamilton fans have no real team to cheer for, most of them get behind Toronto. As a result, a move to Hamilton wouldn't make the league any money, it would just move it around a little. The reason they want to keep a team in the middle of nowhere is because it draws from an untapped pool of yokels who wouldn't be giving their money to the NHL, otherwise. Of course, it would create a huge deal of interest as the Hamilton-Toronto rivalry heated up, similar to the Rangers/Devils, but Bettman is probably looking where he can generate the most money- which is a VERY BAD PLAN, since more interest automatically means more money (albeit indirectly).

There's no reason a hot place can't have a successful NHL team. Florida has two teams! Seriously though, Thunder Bay should get a team. They're right on the border, so they'd draw US fans, and they'd get people from the Sault (on both sides of the border) and probably from Winnipeg, too. I'd say the 'peg should get another chance, but they blew it the first time so... should they?
Well, the Jets went to Phoenix, so was it a wise move in the first place after all? Tampa Bay is floundering, Nashville is too, and I think Atlanta isn't so hot. Florida is so-so. Dallas is a bit of an exception, while the Kings (and all of California) can thank Wayne Gretzky.

Thunder Bay should get a team. The problem is, people would probably confuse it with the Lightning, unless you're proposing that the (Tampa Bay) Lightning move to Canada.

According to the rankings, it is Florida that is floundering (losing 9.4 million/year) and Tampa Bay is barely keeping afloat (1.2 mil/yr). It seems that it would've been a better bet to have a team in Yellowknife than Phoenix (down almost 10 million a year), although travel may be a problem.
