SKILL UPGRADING SYSTEM

Hi everybody, it's me again. I've been wanting to do this for a good time now, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it!
See, I want something like the Advanced Bros. Moves from Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga or the weapon leveling from Ratchet and Clank. Something along those lines.
So for example, If I use "Burn" 50 times it gets replaced by "Ignite".
Help would greatly be appreciated.
I don't know if you can do this in 2k3 (assuming that's what you're using), but you could link the skill to a common event that raises a variable by 1, then checks if the variable is equal to 50 and either replaces Burn with Ignite or does nothing.

No, 2k3 isn't that sophisticated. You'll have to check every turn to see if character x has y less MP than last turn, where y is equal to the skill you're checking for. Every skill needs to cost a different amount of MP, MP recovery items mess it up, MP-damaging enemies mess it up.

Have fun!
And this is why being creative with your battle system and using rm2k3 is a bad thing.
Dang. Oh well, guess i'll add that to my next game. Good thing i'm moving on from 2k3 after this game anyway.

I strongly disagree. Have you ever played Balmug Cycle? How about Burning Grail?

You really don't want me to begin on all the issues these battle systems (and most rm2k3 battle systems in general) still have, even if they are better examples than most.

Yes, Relyt, but 2k3 is still restrictive.

For instance, it CAN'T conveniently do the above. RMVX has a friendly little box that says "Common Event" that would let me do what he wants to do in like five clicks. This request is an excellent benchmark of versatility; 2k3 fails, VX passes.

Oh, btw, this is coming from the guy who made one of the top five most complex DBS modifications ever (Eldritch). Yes, it was possible to do with 2k3. It was also a TREMENDOUS pain up the ass and one of the reasons I dropped the project.
