Cowboy Bebop is one of my favorite animes ever. Actually, it's one of the very few animes I like at all, which is the reputation it is; it's usually recommended as the anime to recommend to people who don't like anime. I'm sure a lot of you know what its about, but in case you don't, the plotline centers around a crew of bounter hunters, Spike Spiegel, and Jet Black. Further in the series this expands to amnesic/con-artist Faye Valentine, androgynous wacky girl Ed, and a superintelligent dog, Ein, all bumming on Jet's ship, the Bebop. The setting is colonized space, but government and regulation has yet to catch up, so the government employs 'Cowboys' to do various missions such as rounding up criminals and solving crimes.
Episodes revolve around the adventures/misadventures that revolve around the crews attempts at these missions, because as a running joke, they're always pretty poor, and usually reduced to eating ramen and rice and beef. The episodes/missions/sessions go from the wacky to the serious, and later on in the series it begins to focus more on Spike's past.
Sounds like pretty standard fare compared to some of the animes floating around, so why is it so popular? The style. It's easily the one of the most stylistic anime's I've ever seen, and the music is a big part of that. The jazz score complements the action incredibly nicely, and the series itself delivers all ranges of storytelling moods without falling into the pitfalls that turns many people off to anime.
Anyway, I'm beginning to ramble. Anyone like this show as much as I do?
I only saw a few episodes of this and really liked them, but I never got around to watching the whole thing.
After my exams are over I should have more than enough time to waste watching anime so heh why not
p.s. if you liked Cowboy Bebop you'll probably like Samurai Champloo which is also relatively stylistic stuff (assuming you haven't seen it already).

Best anime ever.
Once I was watching some anime that I thought was better than Cowboy Bebop, but I double-checked and it turned out I was just watching Bebop again.

It was alright, but mostly just regurgitated western movie cliches all over the place. Ballad of the Fallen Angels is a very stylish (and really over the top cheesy) episode, and Ed's antics are amusing, but otherwise there's not much to recommend.

I can't even begin to find the words to disagree with this as intensely as I do so I'll just not say anything for now and leave it to someone else to hopefully completely dismantle.

Allow me.
*ahem*
Tonfa, your opinion is wrong.
Hmm... that actually wasn't as hard as I was expecting.
I'm by no means an anime nerd but I think Cowboy Bebop is really really good. It has its problems (that I won't get into because they'll just sound nitpicky) but 99% of the time it's super duper awesome.
The music is great especially.

I need some new anime to watch, so hey why not.
I'll probably start this and finish Samurai Champloo while I'm at it.

I heard they might do Cowboy Bebop live action movie with Keanu Reeves as Spike. I don't know how I feel about this yet.

While doing a live action-movie of Cowboy Bebop sounds great and all, the terrible history of live-action anime movies that have been made in the past makes it seem like it wouldn't go too well. Seriously.
After seeing Dragonball: Evolution, I'm not sure if it's possible for the US the NOT fuck up a movie of a Japanese anime. It just seems really sketchy to me.
Even though, if it was made, I'd probably still go watch it, cause that's what I do. XP
ON TOPIC:
I LOVE COWBOY BEBOP! ONE OF THE GREATEST ANIMES OF ALL TIME!!
Hells yes for Japanese that I can read/understand!
Never actually seen the anime, but I have heard the song.

Well, I always keep an optimistic attitude towards the attempt of making anime into live action, but it is "Keanu Reeves" playing as Spike. Seeing how he acts in most of his movies, I think he is too calm to play as Spike.
Side Note: Have not seen the DBZ Evolution yet and I still want to. Regardless of what others say.
So I youtubed this and watch the first half of the first episode. Neat style, but I doubt I could get into this. Anime is not my thing, I guess.

First of all, DBZ Evolution is probably the second worst movie I've EVER seen in my whole life. It's worth watching because of how hilariously bad it is.
As for Keanu Reaves, I think the problem isn't that he's too calm but too horribly untalented as an actor.
They say brevity is the soul of wit, so, I must be brief.
Two words: Bad. Ass.

Two words: Epic. Fail.

I've seen the series about 3 times. Style is good, story is blah until the last few episodes. One of the few theme songs I actually like watching/listening to.
Spike reminds me of a futuristic version of Mugen from Samurai Champloo, which I've seena bout 9 times (working through it right now)
Samurai Champloo > Cowboy Bebop, although both are good.
SC has awesome art (which, mostly involves the heavy dark outline), awesome fights (usually), Mugen's antics are funny, displays Japanese culture really well from the past (although, not historically accurate) and you always wonder if that one old guy was really Miyamoto Musashi. The awesome samurai fights really just get insanely awesome near the end of the series (ep 18-26).
