ANY PREFERENCES ON PERSONA AND GROWLANSER

I'm pretty broke these days, but can probably afford one new game with my next pay cheque, and two of my choices are two new RPGs that just came out over here. Since I think may some people have more experience with these series than I do, maybe someone could offer me an opinion?

Persona and Growlanser were just released for PSP. Anyone play either on PSX or an emulator or something? Any opinions on which is better, what they're about etc.?

If not, all good... just thought I'd check and see.
I bet most people would tell you to get Persona.

I personally prefer Growlanser to Persona, but if I had to guess, I'm very likely in the minority here, by a long shot.
Hmm...that's a toughie. Both games are pretty overshadowed by their superior sequels, but they're still great on their own right...

You COULD play Persona on an emulator, but the PSP one looks way way better.

Personally (lol) I'd go with Persona. Growlanser 2 and 3 were great but the other ones I've played were kinda sucky, whereas I've never been disappointed with a Shin Megami Tensei game.
Persona games are really good! I would recommend Persona. I cannot say specifically if it is better than Growlanser, because I have not played Growlanser. Be warned that Persona has first-person dungeon crawling like the old gold box D&D games or Etrian Odyssey - not everyone likes that type of gameplay.
I've played Persona: Innocent Sin on PSX, and I really enjoyed it, it's got a good atmosphere and great characters. The artwork's also really good. Like brandonabley, I couldn't recommend it over something that i haven't played, but i would still urge you to play it. There's also Eternal Punishment which is like a sequel that you can play after, though ive only just started that. However, not owning a PSP, i don't actually know what Persona is like on it. Is it a port from the PSX?

can't make a bad game if you don't finish any games

I've played Personas 3 and 4, and Growlanser: Heratage of War.

I would suggest Persona over Growlanser, but I've heard that HoW is the crappiest Growlanser, and that Persona 1 is the least entertaining of the four, so I could have a warped opinion.
I forgot there's also the discount games of Star Ocean 1 and Breath of Fire 3 in the running.

I got a wad of cash, I'll go to the game store and I'll see if anything grabs me enough to buy it.

Right now I'm betting I won't buy anything, or I'll buy Growlanser. We'll see though. It'll be all spontaneous.
I almost bought Growlanser, but then I saw in the ratings it mentions love and relationships and whatnot, and I got worried it was going to be one of them dating sim games, and I didn't want to play one of them, so I left the game store and bought beer and yogurt drinks instead.
So I was in the video game store looking for something cheap, and I came across a game that was called Suikoden I and II.

I didn't pick it up, but I will next, which will be soon and way before Growlanser and Persona.
Good plan.

Also I own this and I can't read Japanese.

And I've managed to get to Two-River so far
I feel dumb for not buying it right away now.

I totally forget both games. It's gonna be good times when I get my hands on it.

If you saw Suikoden II for cheap, you'll probably never see it again. You done fucked up.

You've never heard of the Suikoden series!? Suikoden II is known as one of the best rpgs of all time.
I own Suikoden I and Suikoden II on Playstation, but in Japan there's an old PSP game called Suikoden I and II which is, well, Suikoden I and Suikoden II. I had no idea such a compilation existed. I was just being silly with the way I wrote it.

But I never understood how much love Suikoden II got. I thought it was decent, but no where near one of the best RPGs.
