That's odd. In the UK most companies give away X amount of free texts to it's customers every month. I'm on pay as you go, but I get 500 free texts every time I top up £10. Lasts me all month.
Probably because in the UK people aren't trained sheep. Also, the companies probably realized that texts costs them next to nothing compared to actual voice conversations.

Japan gets near-free texts and free incoming calls.. but there's no concept of free evenings and weekends, and cell phone plans are a lot more expensive in general. I pay about 100 dollars a month.

i don't send texts. i talk to people. none of this concerns me.
This.. Plus no cell phone as mine was stolen a while back and now I'm saving money and pocket space.
