Soo, I thought I'd post in a watercolour I did about 8 months back(watercolour ftw), it's pretty old actually, I've improved since(not to sound up my own arse), but im holding out for a scanner before putting anything else online. I'd just finished playing xenogears. It's no character in particular, but i'm feeling the style.

Yeah the qualities pretty poor, I don't own a scanner as i ended up spending the money on tesco value chocolate, so i get by with my camera heheh.
reason: tesco value chocolate is almost the best. nearly as good as sainsbury's basics chocolate.

other comments: watercolour is the nicest of mediums and is perfect for this airy image. you've achieved a good elegance of shading, but one thing I do notice is that the form of the arms / hands is slightly awry. that is so difficult to get right tho so hell if I am complaining.
Touche my friend, touche.
Though tesco value chocolates gone downhill since i binged on it all those...days ago. They don't even sell the white chocolate with strawberry bits in anymore! I was distraught i tell you.

Heehe, thanks for the comments, i was always rubbish at hands, but then i spent a week in art drawing and redrawing the bone structure and shiz, so i feel like i've mastered them now(and also despise them at the same time).
THOSE.. FIENDS !!
Looks good - post more. :3

A guy translated the Perfect Works artbook into English too. I have a copy of the actual book in Japanese just because I like all the illustrations, but with all the backstory in that game it's cool to finally know what the text means too.

You can check it out here if you want: Xenogears Perfect Works
Oh cool, thank you. I never even thought about looking for an artbook for it. The art is very good.
I remember I wanted the final fantasy 9 one at one point but wherever i looked it was about £200! I'm no money tree. I also wanted Persona 3+4's, but never got round to it, i think i was bitter that i bought the game when the book didn't come free with it.
You can probably find decent scans of a lot of the stuff in the artbooks online if you're willing to look hard for it.

It's good to see someone else use watercolours. It's been absolutely ages since I last watercoloured anything!
Well, i've reached an all time low, and i'm now using my mobile phone to take pictures of my work, as i don't understand finepixviewer and it's refusing to cooperate with me :'[

I think I did this about 5 months ago, i was going to use it for an art project, but then my teacher told me he hated the style, so i guess it wasn't meant to be. i really don't know where those creases came from, maybe i screwed it up in anger or something hahah.

@Sam, yeah, i downloaded a couple of illustrations, but i dunno, it's not the same when its on the computer screen instead of in the book.

Aye, it's a shame when you can't find the actual art books, but when you don't have any way to get the book it has to do. Though I did recently get the first Dragon Ball art book (I still like Toriyama's style) and even though I'd seen 90% of the stuff online, it felt so much better to have it in my hand and the images look so much crisper and more vibrant in print.

As for the large piece there, it's pretty good. I love how the hair's been coloured, all the colours go together really well and you know how to transistion from one shade to another. I particularly like the bottom lip, the highlight gives it a sense of moisture that most people forget about. The face seems a little long for my personal tastes, but that's really just a little niggle. The eyes look quite emotive.

Art teachers commonly hate anything that resembles comic art, that includes American and Japanese comics. I found in high school and college I got marked down for using a comic style, but at Uni, they honestly don't seem to care what style you use. It came up once with my course leader and all she said was "If it feels right, suits you and you can do it well, go for it. All art teachers are prejudiced against comic art because all they see are a million Spider-Mans and Cloud Strifes, it's a real shame they're so ignorant."
I really like your control of the medium. Looks good.
These are absolutely wonderful considering your purely traditional coloring. Your lines are smooth and your shading vibrant-- really nice stuff. <3
