RELEASE SOMETHING! DAY VII: ADVENT CHILDREN [DISCUSSION]
Posts
Well, I'm aware of the bugs, and I've fixed the move during cutscene one, fixed Alastair's walking sprite, and made it Non-RTPable.
As for the zombie, I have no idea. Enjoy your undeath.
I'm uploading the fixed version now. Should be 20 minutes.

Chaos, your behavior has caused me to fix the bug affecting game downloads.
...I don't know if that's good or bad. Or both or neither.
...Apologies?
...Apologies?
It's good. I'm sorry it wiped out your page. =(
I am absolutely loving the dialogue in Notes of the Second Mylland War so far. Granted the music is a bit too familiar at times but I can't complain while listening to BoFIV tracks. <3
Good to hear it, YM!
Yeah, I've only just realised that right in the first segment, the music's Corneria Castle --> FFIV --> BoFIV --> FFVII :-\ There are obviously a few more big-name-game tracks in the game but they're not all from massively famous RPGs, by any means, haha.

Hmmm. WIP, I don't feel your release was up to the same standard as the others. :D
Oh don't worry. Mine is better than everyones.
Oh? I can't seem to find the download link.
It'll take a bit longer to release!
Right. I've got some notes on Speak no Evil! I will say, before I start: I do like the look of it and want to play further, but haven't been able to get that far. Unfortunately, it crashed on me again (see last bullet point). Anyway, these are just my thoughts (including the inane ones), in chronological order. Hide tags don't seem to work with bullet points, sorry everyone.
Found a couple of passability errors, as well, that I just thought I'd bring to your attention.
(as you can tell from some of my comments, I have been opening it up in the editor to check some of the things out. I've been trying my hardest not to ruin anything etc. though, don't worry)
So, yeah. I guess I'll have to wait for the next version? I want to see where this goes, though!
btw my very first thought was
- I really like the sprites. Love the triangular trees, as well.
- This outdoor area is way too barren. I really think an NPC or two would help, even if it was just a guy walking between two of the 'where the hell am I going?' points every now and again, or some kids in a parking lot. Also, an occasional clump or tuft on the grass wouldn't go amiss, but I understand if this clashes with the style.
- As much as I may hate them, the Windows sound effects do kind of fit the atmosphere!
- Maybe make Nicole's hair a bit darker? I can't really tell where it ends and the skin begins.
- You could speak to the TVs in each house, but not the computers, fridges etc. that you come across. Any particular reason for only being able to examine the telly?
- The first battle is way too hard, I lost twice and took ages about it. I would consider making them one hit to kill, or at least lowering their speed so they don't swarm you and you don't miss all the time (coming back to this point, I haven't missed a lot since then, must have just got unlucky. I would seriously consider lowering their HP to maybe 10, though).
- Without the Double Attack perks equipped these surround attacks were incredibly hard! I got debuffed to hell and slowly died on the second battle. :( To be fair, I didn't see Nicole had Recharge as well (assumed it was just Attack, Off., Def., didn't try scrolling down :-\ and Alex didn't show Off. and Def. in his commands so I assumed they were separate skillsets) and so when she ran out of MP, that was pretty much it... There isn't exactly a lot you can do to help
moronspeople who don't realise, though, short of an incredibly condescending 'scroll down to get more commands!' tutorial. - I've just seen in the editor that, one square up and one to the right of the save point in this area (in the following screenshots) there appears to be a debug of some sort, changing Alex's commands. Maybe I accidentally did this and this has to do with him suddenly gaining Off. Skill and Def. Skill. This is confusing! :-\
- To be honest, in the surround attacks I'm still debuffed to the point where the fights are relatively boring and take longer than a fight of just attacking and occasional healing should.
- Was I supposed to level before this point? I generally just avoided as many fights as I could, because occasionally you got the 'Gigas' that just murdered me (and there were SO MANY enemies I figured that that was what you should do)...
- AAARGH I finally beat the three surround attacks and 'Event script referenced an item which does not exist' the moment Alex walked off the screen. I tested this bit again and I got it again. So ends the first lot of notes, I guess.

Interestingly, while you can't pass sideways through any instances of the square to the right of here...

... you can actually pass sideways through any instances of the square to the right of here.

The 'above hero' grass BITES BACK (but this doesn't seem to be in any area you're supposed to walk in so it's fiiiiine)

And, obviously these apply to every instance of this on the left side as well.

i hate you this was my idea this was my idea (just joshin). I was actually planning on a rude-graphics-modern-day RPG sometime very far down the line. Thinking about it, earthbound, origin etc. beat us to it anyway :(, and I guess since earthbound all modern-day rpgs have to look straight outta MSPaint, and there are limited chipsets for it SO (ftr mine would have been a lot less action-packed and would probably have ended up being a bit like welcome to the nhk so might still happen)
