Sounds like you need to play Evil Zone. The story mode's premise is that these fights are being broadcasted on TV by the character whose story mode you are doing. (Okay, this may seem retarded if you miss the point and take it seriously...)

Play better players. If you can beat someone by button mashing repeatably, their skill is probably in the negatives.

I actually need to get 'back' into fighting games. They're probably my favorite genre, and I've been playing them ever since I was a little kid. Back in high school some friends and I used to play competitively, and some of them still go all over the East Coast in tournaments and whatnot. If there's ever the unified interest, I'll set up a tournament here one day.

I hate Soul Calibur 4 too... but I more or less hate fighting games in general. I don't very much like gears or fighting.
