The GBA version of FFIV was crap. There were a ton of bugs in the ATB system and it lagged. Yeah, not fun at all.

I imported the European version and ran like a charm with zero errors. It was amazing.

It's like whoever was arranging the tracks for the DS didn't know what the sound card was capable of or something, 'cause I've heard some pretty symphonic stuff on the DS (read: Mario Hoops).

I don't know maybe they just used streaming audio.

This looks dang awesome!! One thing I can't decide on, though: should I play the GBA port first, thereby making the DS game a new, fresh experince and prolonging gameplay time? Or should I just skip to the DS version when it comes out?

I would skip to the DS one. DS just reigns supreme over all. Anyway, the DS version is going to be much better than GBA's was.

I downloaded the OST, and it doesn't sound too hot, actually. TBH, the FF3DS soundtrack sounded better. It's like whoever was arranging the tracks for the DS didn't know what the sound card was capable of or something, 'cause I've heard some pretty symphonic stuff on the DS (read: Mario Hoops).
Matrix software actually did the music for 4 DS while someone at Squenix did the music for 3 DS. I believe they purposely chose music that sounded more similar to the SNES version. Quite retarded, frankly.

Also, a friend of mine created a perfect XM player for the DS that absolutely kicks ass. It's being used in a game I can't mention.

Square enix are well known for making great music and cutscenes so i hope they can continue this in this game. Does anyone know who the composer for this is going to be?

Obviously Nobuo Uematsu, if not: remixes of his work on FF4.

The music for the game is arranged from the original soundtrack by Uematsu. I don't know the name of the arranger.

At first when I heard about this, I was like F***YES. I love FF4, it's among my fave old FF's. However, after playing FF3 and seeing how much they managed to destroy it from the inside out, I really have strong doubts about FF4DS. Like, big time. In the biggest kinda way.
To point out what the heck I'm on about: In FF3, when you leveled up your job classes, you were also levelling up your characters stats. So a warrior would get plus str stat, say. When you change classes, you keep those stat upgrades. So, you can beef up your warrior and swap him into a mage for power-punch mage action: No. Because you're str stat would be high, and best suited for using a sword, which mages can't use. Your mp and mag stats would be too low to handle magic. So, you craft your Light Warriors through the Job Classes, and it was a sweet-ass game.
What do they do in NDS? Slip that stat building feature from under our feet. Now you only get stats for the class upgrades while still in that class. (IE: Warrior lvl.X would have X str stat bonus. Switch to another class, and stat bonus is gone until you switch back)

I know I'm ranting about the last FFDS game. However, this is such a huge change to the fundamentals of FF3, that it makes me wonder what they can screw up about FF4.I already know they're changing the story, what else?

The overarching game design problem with this system is that it penalizes you for exploring the job system, which is the game's major feature. The most viable tactic in the game is to switch everyone to martial artists at the start and never ever change classes. Getting new job classes means that you'll have to deal with sharply reduced stats if you are foolish enough to switch to them.
You do know that FFIII for DS is actually a remake of the true FF3, right? FF3 for SNES is actually FF6, I think.
Plainly, he does. You can't change "classes" in FF6. You spoony bard!
So who wants to open the books on how long it'll be before we get FFV DS then FFVI DS?

And whether the FFVII remake will be for PS3, PSP, DS, or all of the above?

FFVI was released as FFIII because America didn't get the whole series. This was rectified in the PSX rerelease, so please stop considering FFVI as FFIII, keep with the times, man.

Also, I think FFVI is being released on PSP, last I heard. But that was word of mouth on Gamingw, so I have no clue.

No such truth to it. If there were wiffs of a FFVI remake, you can bet your ass I would know about it.

Also, I don't know if they are making any sort of large change like that to FF4. It has the new ability system but it doesn't change a core mechanic.
Yeah, the only known remake i know of is crisis core which is FFVII.

Errrrrr Crisis Core isn't a remake at all. It's a completely new game that takes place before FFVII.
The next game they should remake is a NEW game.

Well, they just made the World Ends With You. I assume if you support them focusing on new games (and new IPs for that matter) instead of remakes, you bought a copy to tell them so, right?

In my opinion, Square's Golden Age was long ago, and I have absolutely zero faith in them making anything new that's good at all. They should just stick to remakes.
