Bought all three albums. Big fan.
That pretty much sums it up.

The first one ranges from "Terrible" to "Good" with little middle ground. Fortunately most of it is more on the positive side. Give it a spin. The second is mostly a bunch of trash that sounds two steps above garage band and some atrocious singing. Avoid it.
Can I be the only person who likes the last boss theme from V better than Clash on the Big Bridge? Not that I prefer the Black Mages version, the bassline's the best bit and it's way more pronounced on the in-game version.
But that's a minor point. I'm a pretty big fan.
It's not Uematsu but I'd like to see them do some FFT music. This would most probably be horrible... but I'd still like to see it. A Chapel, please.

Are you talking about albums? Or the three songs linked from above?
I heard the black mages... was it 5? 7 years ago now?
They are mostly terrible, but then again when they pick the right songs to "cover", it works.

Words right out of my mouth. Their rendition of Maria and Draco is insane, although I prefer the traditional live performance from Distant Worlds.
They butchered Seymour Battle. That's all I can say.
Gilgamesh sounded pretty cool. The improvised section in the middle showed off a couple very talented soloists.
They've certainly got good technique (and great taste) but they leave out a great deal of important nuances written in the OSTs. I really think every single bassline note should be emulated as is, as well as every harmonic chord structure movement. From that point, it can be changed up, but it drives me nuts when bands like this simplify the music.
