While I don't think anyone's going to boycott the game for this kind of thing, and it's certainly not going to change the gameplay at all, you do have to wonder if this kind of thing is deliberate and the first promotional shots are intentionally made so much better than you could ever hope to see in the game. I've never really noticed it before, but the 'nobody believes promotional images for games' implies that that's the case...

Graphics reached the point of me not caring with PS2 graphics. There was a little room for improvement with PS games.
This however, doesn't bug me at all. When I first saw the pics on Kotaku, I didn't read it, and had no idea what the big deal was. I thought it was about stylistic changes or making characters more cute/sexy.

Couldn't this also be the PS3 version versus the XBOX 360 version (notice how there's English subtitles in one screenshot)? Either way, the graphics aren't THAT big of a deal. It's not like PS1/N64/Dreamcast, where the Dreamcast had the best graphics, followed by PS1, with N64 bringing up the rear with pop-up graphics and fog everywhere.
The difference is pretty big when they're put together like that but I probably wouldn't notice anything major just playing it. Otherwise, I'm not a big fan of the look of the game. Kinda bright and flamboyant futuristic like FF8 and FF10 (to an extent). I prefer the slightly darker industrial style they used in FF7 and FF6, which is why I'm slightly more excited by Versus VIII, which seems like it will have a dark, noir-ish feel to it.
vXIII looks like absolute garbage.

Exactly. The top character looks a lot like the annoying princess in FFXII which isn't to my liking. It will sell bucketloads anyway.

This is why I hate the gaming industry sometimes, because people go nuts over bullshit like this. Does it really matter, just like when John Carmac said the Playstation 3 version of Rage would have slightly better graphics in the areas you can't get to.. who cares WTF!?
