Hey you guys I wrote this tutorial thing. Maybe you could read it and make your RM2k/3 games work now?

Yeah, I always do this because none of my friends have RPG Maker installed but they still enjoy playing my projects.

BTW, I'm not completely sure but don't you need to add harmony.dll file into your project folder?

Not sure. It probably can't hurt though.

I renamed my RTP folders so now if I'm missing any files in the game, I'll know. I don't think you need to add the Harmony.dll file, I've played some RM games (With the fullpackageflag=1) on a school computer and it didn't have that file. I guess if you're still worried about it, you can include it.

It might have been tucked away in some Windows directory. I've seen a few crashes related to this file and had to hunt it down. I'll see if I can get to the bottom of it and, if I do, I'll update the tutorial!
Although you stated quite the obvious Brickroad, that's really a helpful tutorial! Thanks a bunch, I made sure to save it as a .txt file if I ever release any games.

You're quite welcome. Stating the obvious is my specialty.

If I remember correctly, Harmony.dll is for RM's MIDI player, but was only needed for certain things. I don't know what those things are, but it's only in 2k. 2k3 is susposed to use DirectX instead, so including Harmony.dll is not required.

Maybe Harmony is only called if the computer's MIDI player is insufficient.

This is possible, I used to get the harmony.dll errors on my old emachine back in 2002/3.

But again, it's not like it could hurt anything.

I'll talk to WIP about putting something in motion to edit articles after they've been posted so I can update the tutorial.

Yeah, I'm going to be reworking the submission stuff so you can edit anything you've submitted. Not sure when it'll popup, though.
I actually needed to know how to kill RTP dependency. Thanks!

Did you get my PM? I tried to play your game but couldn't (I don't have RM2k installed anymore, let alone its RTP) and that was pretty much the inspiration for this tutorial.
Not until AFTER reading this thread, oddly. But I appreciate the interest! I will see what I can do.
Double posting for attention, sorry.

I should point out that my test computer, which is fairly new, needed the Harmony.dll file, so I would recommend amending the article to mention sticking that file in there just to be safe.

Brickroad: This version of Mercenary ought to be RTP independent now, if you're still willing to give the game a go.

Thanks again.

Incidentally, I'd like to know how Despain made Sandfall RTP independant, if only because I would REALLY like to be able to distribute Corporal Buggy Bear (a game of which I am much more proud of than Mercenary) without telling people to download the untranslated RTP installer. (Or RPG Maker XP itself!)

If he doesn't notice this thread I'll just pester him in PM to hope and uncover his arcane secrets.
