BEFORE I UPLOAD MY GAME... I HAVE A QUESTION.

Is it acceptable to use MP3's from console RPG's in my game, if I give credit?
Because some of these songs are sooo perfect for the mood I want to portray in the scenes.

Just wanted to know if people thought this was acceptable; if not, I will just use the default songs.
No one really cares too much if you use stuff from console games or whatever, but it can be annoying if you use really overplayed songs, or songs that are from well-known games that are easily recognizable.

You have no idea how many people here do that already.

Seriously. It's ridiculous. It's not even funny.
How about a few from Legend of Dragoon?
Albert Oddysey I think would be okay...
But I was going to use one of the boss themes from one of the SNES Final Fantasy games...
Why is it that people only ask if it is okay to steal music from a game? They never ask "is it okay to steal graphics from FFII if I give credit" or "is it okay to steal the name Final Fantasy and attach in front of my game's name if I give credit" etc.

I get the point...but...I guess most people don't ask for the other stuff because music is really the most memorable part.

I mean, if there's one thing a person can remember a game by, but not remember anything else, it's the music.
(That's true with RPG's especially, in my humble opinion.)

Just something related that I realized.

I see...
Well, it seems that the main battle music is fine.
I need to loop one more music, then I'm uploading my game.

Basic rule is credit everything you take from anyone ever, and get permission when possible.

If too much of your game reminds players of a different game, then it's probably going to detract from their enjoyment of it unless you're using it for parody or something like that. As a rule I'd say avoid using any music by Squaresoft, Enix, or the monstrosity they combined to create.

There are a 'lot' of composers who have thrown their music up on various sites and ask nothing more than to be credited in your project.

This is exactly why you don't want music from Final Fantasy in your games. I understand exactly where you're coming from in terms of the perfect music for the mood; I've designed scenes in my head entirely by listening to a track that it might be set to, but I think we can both agree that there is no mood a boss theme from FF-whatever that can't be had with an infinite number of alternative choices.

Overall, as long as your game isn't incredibly bloated by it (over 100 megs of commercial music), then people won't be too bothered. You're already aware that using recognizable music will disjoint the experience somewhat.
Nobody cares really. RPG Maker users aren't the only people that do this by far.
All right; game uploaded.

I hope you don't mind that I accidentally dropped this link to it here.
