I was always fond of Mordos Kull from Mace: The Dark Age. I dunno, it just sounds like one of those cookie-cutter-badass names... but it works for how cheesy the game itself is.

I always liked the name Alex from Lunar: The Silver Star (Story Complete).
Or Hiro was good from Lunar 2: Eternal Blue (Complete).

Auron from Final Fantasy 10 is cool. I guess cause it sounds like "aura." =3
Auron just sounds like Aaron to me. I always liked the name Gafgarion(FFT).

Of the choices people have made, I really like Kefka and Gafgarion so far.

I dislike names that feel like they have absolutely zero etymology, and I hate names that are a blatantly obvious reference. It leaves me not knowing what to like.

If Auron sounds like Aaron, you are pronouncing it wrong.
Well actually it doesn't really sound like it I just associated it with that word because of the very similar spelling.

Edit: Oh wait, we're talking about video game characters with the best names, aren't we? In any case, of names that haven't been said already, I've always kind of liked Bonk, Nightmare, Joe Musashi, Captain Commando, Chelnov, Mother Brain, GCS-WT (makes sense when you know the development company's name), Bill Rizer, and probably others that haven't come to mind quite yet.
