GAME MUSIC WON'T WORK

Hey everyone I'm new to the site and was hoping someone might help me out. I've downloaded several games and for some reason some games music files don't seem to play. I have downloaded rpg maker games in the past and had a similar problem as well. I currently have about 30 games total, several of which have no working music but most work just fine. I also have rpg maker VX installed on my computer, its the trial version (as I have yet to decide whether I should spend the 60 bucks or not). Also I'm running windows vista. Any help would be greatly appreciated, games just aren't as fun when they're quiet!
Lifted from an old topic:
If it's just midis that aren't playing, chances are it'll be the old SW Synth in the volume control panel on the toolbar. If it's at the bottom of the guage, turn it up.

SW Synth seems to effect MIDI files. If it doesn't work, check your sound settings. Vista uses a weird sound pipeline which causes no-sound problems in other games (including commercial games such as Trickster Online).
Okay, we get asked this all the time, this should go in here: http://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/1655/ so people stop asking it all the time.
... i hate vista! SW Synth seems to not exist or is not accessible through the volume control or the sound settings in the control panel. hmmm. maybe someone else with vista has had this problem? as a side note thanks for that link it should prove useful for some other things I was curious about
You have to unlock and add different volume controls to that, or at least I had to get it to work. Vista is a pain I swear. Go into properties in the volume control and check the empty box next to SW Synth to enable the volume control.
