Collaborative is my favorite kind of game-making.

I personally don't celebrate the holiday, but making a game design contest and producing something would be fun.
Hmm, anyone want to host this? I am willing to take the reigns if someone doesn't. Just need to be clear on what we're doing.
A collaborative game is tough. I don't really see how that would work too well, unless you do something like Alex, where members of the community submit one map to fit into one overarching plot. Usually maps that characterize the creators' style. Just... with a Halloween theme and plot.
However, it wouldn't work as an event that would just take place on Halloween, it would have to probably start at the beginning of October, and have a deadline a week or two before the actual Halloween, because one person has to put everything together. This takes a long time because it can't just be meshed over, stuff has to be individually copied. And there's stuff like switches, variables...
There is also a conflict between different makers for that. It would be really cool if we pulled it off though. (Alex games were always diverse and fun.)

A three hour contest might work best, or something similar. If we do that, perhaps a collection of general Halloween-y graphics should be assembled, so those 3 hours wouldn't be spent searching for resources.

I also have a small suggestion: feature the best horror game on Halloween

Unfortunately Muse won't be done by then =P
This reminds me, I still have that 5 min halloweenie game I still need to upload here..

Anyways, I will be busy with midterms up until the 31st, so I'm out.
I'm with Azn on this one. I don't think this will work very well as a collaborative game since the emphasis will be on atmosphere and style (rather than gameplay/zaniness). Having it all meshed into one big project will just end up being jolting. And - the most important point - a collaborative game locks us into a specific maker. That can be really limiting for some people when it comes to style.

I'd view this rather as a kind of "Pixel Contest", but with the focus on atmosphere than just pixels, you know? So I advocate separate projects, a 2 or 3 week timeframe starting in early Oct, with a due date on Oct 26th with the community voting on which submission is the winner, voting closing on Oct 31st.
I'm already starting on something, but I can hold off until early October... Not sure if it would be finished by the 26th though.
I'll probably start on something today, I think I could get it out around Halloween. Now, it isn't very Halloweenish, but, whatever.

A Halloween fun house and each person who decides to collaborate, designs a single room of a varied size and design. There would be the central corridor that would lead to other rooms, all you would really need is an overall map and rooms with each person asigned to a room.

I would totally put my hand up for this, but I'm working through the whole halloween weekend, and I have a hell week right before. Damn theatre commitments.

Don't worry. Darken has already been assigned the go-to guy for this.
It would be great to have an overall theme (excluding 'Halloween', as the contest would be about Halloween). What I mean by this is that we're all assigned a certain theme (for instance, we must all create a short creation involving a haunted house, or an abandoned city, etc), and we are given an allotted time period to complete and submit this by.
So, then, do we know what idea we're going with?
