RELEASE SOMETHING! DAY VIII: JOURNEY OF THE CURSED KING [DISCUSSION]

Hey I don't know what to play (excluding V&V and DOAD since I have played them before) but I plucked two games out of here and these are my thoughts.
V&V is radically different from the original. The only thing similar is the maps.
Clyve: Then don't make RPG Cliche Quest 315246643 because I've played it 6246426 times before. I haven't even looked at your gamepage because the title puts me off.
Lazer Kirby: Don't cover your HUD with a messagebox like in your advertising screenshot. :<
NoblemanNick: I'm not playing a fucking titlescreen demo, especially not with a screenshot - oh wait, that's the demo.
GAMES I HAVE DECIDED TO DOWNLOAD:
-Tactics Minigame
-Arcanioniumz (I want to see if it's any better than Phantasia 3's disaster)
-MOG's LAST GREATEST 2k3 RPG EVER IN THE WORLD OH GOD THE VX BETTER TAKE OVER SOON
Soooo I played Arcanion. I think the execution could have been done better, and for some reason, I really get the Atelier Iris vibe from the quests. The intro has a sprite of Irwin floating around in a monologue was pretty hilarious.
Well, I haven't gotten that far yet and I stopped near the caves, The battles are basically hack and slash and wasn't so...appealing...Welp, I'll play it again after school but really~

post=98990whachu talkin' about willis? I played your game the day it was released, commented on it AND put it in my Play Something! in the SNEWS! Also, F-G wrote a review.post=98950Since the first day I put up my project I haven't gotten much feedback. I wouldn't even care if someone said "thiz game sux fag", kind of like clyve. :P
Well, I'm happy with the amount of feedback my release has garnered, how about y'all?
EDIT:
Also, Release Something! Day District 9
Feld Chronology is looking great so far. I'm not too far into it, but I can already see a difference between this and the last. It's cleaner, more refined, more balanced, and has better dialogue. Cheers, my friend.

I'm not too sure what expression that is supposed to be, but yeah, I'm currently playing Chronology too. My only complaint so far would be some pieces of the soundtrack, but other than that I'm not very far into the game either, to form a solid opinion. I'm in the train going somewhere atm.
How long is the demo approximately?

It's an expression of pure bliss.
As for how long the demo is? It's difficult to gauge since I've playtested it to death and I know my way around. I'd say about...an hour maybe?
WDRPG is much more eye-catching in both style and content...though probably not for the best of reasons (it sounds a lot like someone's weak first attempt at a homage game, like "look gais, I makes a kirby gams! I'm 12!") so it got a lot of attention, especially by people looking to rip it apart while EJ looks like a fairly plain, generic RPG which the vultures tend to ignore.

Fair enough, Craze. The title probably is very off-putting. I should probably rename it because while the story is cliché, the game itself is actually carefully constructed and fun (at least based on the feedback I'm getting). It's been suggested that I take a poll on a new name for the game, I'll probably do that.
Well, I played Arcanion. I like the way the game flows in terms of taking quests and such. The sprites are also very nice. But the execution/presentation is off. There were also some errors here and there. Like in the intro. Irwin's sprite was over the panorama. Then there was an error in the first battle where Irwin got his sword. His idle stance was still under the animation. There was also a general lack of direction going on.
Overall, I liked Phantasia 5 better, but this game's idea in terms of design is better than P5's imo. If anything, I'd merge P5's story and mechanics with Arcanion's progression style, but that's not going to happen, so!
Up next is...*looks through the releases*
Hellion. I've never given these retro style games much attention. May as well try it.

I will lure you to the dark side....
EDIT:
So I decided to play Chronology of the Last Era. So far I have to say that I like it! I've only just started the sewers but everything seems very polished, balanced and well presented. Lovin' the title screen.
Also, I lolled a bit when the intro says "...the war ended as quickly as it started" and then followed with "...it took 50 years to start." (plus a bunch of backstory telling us that it took a long time for the tension to build into a war).
EDIT2:
Played Tina of the Stars. This is the second time I've played it - still as cutesy as I remember! The gameplay is simple - collect the stars to unlock a (trivial) badguy punching-fest while avoiding said baddies until all the stars are collected.
I died on level 4. :(

So I played Hellion for like, half an hour so far. It's actually pretty damn good. I made my hero a Kensai and put my skill points into Defend, Crush, Lockpick and Forage. My party so far is Christo and Juliet.
With a Hammer of Defense, Damaged Tower Shield, and Full Plate, my hero is a monster on the first floor so far. I one shot'd a pixie with a 249 damage critical. :D
I expect to start getting killed once I start getting deeper into the pit though, so this is probably short lived.
There is one problem though. The Stamina display really lags up my game. In fact, I don't bother running/hiding at all because of it.
Overall, this is great so far. I'll come back to this. :3
Next is...Chronology of the Something or Another.

I played Skie's game DOAD until I got my ass absolutely ruined by some friendly looking critters.
I do not think I am cut out for this game.

So, I played Monstrous Wars and was pretty impressed by the cutscene eventing. However, there were a few problems with the maps, such as disjointed transfer points (going in the door at the top of the dining room in your house and winding up in the upper left hand side of the screen in the basement, for instance), being able to walk on the counter in Walter's house where there's a jar, and standing near chairs and having your head go underneath them. Also, the music changed too frequently and had odd volume changes as well.
Besides those flaws, it was pretty neat, but I got killed by the boss slime because for some reason my attacks started only doing one damage, I wasn't given enough healing items or money with which to buy them, and all I could do was a bare handed attack. Honestly, having no skills in battles in addition to only one character is a surefire way to put me off as it's just so boring and the battles are so grindy. You just rest your head on your left hand while you press enter with your right.
I really liked the setting and would probably continue playing as I love games that mix modern with fantasy, but I really have no desire to go kill all those slimes again and fight a boss that puts my attack down to 1 when I have no skills to compensate for it.

This. Lag didn't help either although I think that was my laptop's fault (it's very old!)
