I never actually made "Super Jonas Brothers 3", it was actually a joke post. Just to be clear on that.

I was playing Hellion for a bit. Was interesting, and finally got a good powerhouse party that I want to use. Mages seem way too squishy and I didn't think the spells they had were worth it, so I got an Animagus, a Brute, a Warrior, and a Monk instead. If you want all enemy attacks, you can equip one of the stronger characters with a boomerang or at least claws. If you want to hit an undead, they have anti-undead spells too. An Animagus has stat boosts too and usually the mages don't live long enough in the battles that need it for you to use it anyway. Maybe it'll change later in the dungeon but that's how I felt so far.

The abilities are nice but you level up so slowly that there's not much opportunities to level them up other than recruiting party members and some skill book things. This pit is absolutely huge.

Personally I'd suggest instead of stamina, to just have a run/walk toggle for those who want to move faster. I thought walking was too slow and running with the stamina thing was pretty annoying.

Is there any place to replace damaged items, or is it just damaged forever?

I loved the variety of weapons/armor/items you can find, although I kinda wish that you didn't have to go to item, open each chest/bag thing individually.

2 spelling errors so far: Revan (Instead of Raven), and the beginning ability selection (once you press 1) has "descrption" or something like that mispelled.

While I know you liked the DW music to go along with the graphics, personally I feel they're annoying as midis, I wouldn't mind them as mp3s though. Maybe replacing them with other midis would work.

But anyway, I'm on floor 4-a of the Pit, may continue more of it later.

EDIT-
Arararararghh that stupid Skeleton king is a massive jump in difficulty, being able to easily one hit kill my strongest people and it's directly after another fight leaving you no time to rest in between, and is in a multiple enemy group. If I didn't have a Warrior with Holy Blade I'd have lost. Fought him at Level 7.
I gave Cliche RPG a try, and while it had a lot going for it, it wasn't very fun. Part of this is because the enemies seem overbalanced (I just got to the lake town area and one of the enemies there almost killed a party member in one hit), It doesn't help that inn prices scale to your level, making it very hard to grind for cash. I'll keep playing, but I really hope these things let up as you progress.

I had a feeling I would need to adjust the monsters there a little as well. The battles are supposed to be a little more difficult than your standard RPGs, but not Phylomortis-like by any stretch of the imagination. I do agree that a small tweak is probably necessary, however.
I am happy to hear that people are enjoying Chronology. Keep me updated on how you feel about it, and everyone else, if you haven't checked it out yet, please do!

Played Tina of the Stars. This is the second time I've played it - still as cutesy as I remember! The gameplay is simple - collect the stars to unlock a (trivial) badguy punching-fest while avoiding said baddies until all the stars are collected.

I died on level 4. :(

Do you think I should lower the difficulty of the game" While I'm trying to create a good, step-by-step increase in difficulty for each level, I want my game to be beatable.
Well, it was kinda hard - I think that maybe the skullwalkers are a little too aggressive for a second level enemy. I'd put in some more "random movement" commands for their path algorithm.
Just as an aside and a bit of advice. I IMPLORE everyone to check out playing RM games with a joypad instead of the keyboard. It makes the experience so much better,

Also, I'm playing The Realms Shattered right now. Very 'tight' experience. The game seems pretty polished and Liberty put a lot of time into it!
I also suggest trying to hook up your PC to a TV (especially an old CRT) for the true "old school" experience.
Yeah, I've been working on that as well. I definitely look forward to playing some of my favorite RM games on my TV.
Also, this may sound stupid and cheesy and all that, but the best way to play an RM game is to enjoy it. Don't just halfmindedly start it up in windowed mode and plug through it just so you can say you did and maybe review it later for some extra pats on the back. Full screen it, plug in that joypad, and have a good god damn time. Immerse yourself and just kick back your feet and relax.

I can guarantee you you'll legitimately enjoy a lot of games a lot more that way.

1. Damaged forever
2. Press the '4' key to auto-open all chests/books/bags/etc...
3. Revan is actually a reference to KOTOR
4. I'll fix the typo
5. meh on the music - I like it, besides
6. For my beta testing I had a lot of complaints that the bosses were WAYYY too easy! So I got Ephiam to redesign them! And because I rushed the release, I never actually tested! yay!

My plan right now is to play test the game (lol), fix up the bugs and balance issues I find, finish off the last 4 levels and release the full game. All this between now and whenever my wife goes into labour.

Oh cool, I thought the scholars said something about other keys but I had forgotten. Was too busy translating scrolls instead.
Oh yeah, don't press the '5' key! It's broken and can possibly set the game into an endless loop.
DRAGON FANTASY: VENAITURA

INTRO

The Dragon Fantasy series is back, with the same Dragon Quest graphics, but a brand new design that sets it apart from the other games in the series, if not other RPG 2K3 games.

STORY

The dreaded Dark King is in his battleship Venaitura and you need to stop him. Other than some smattering of brief cut scenes the story is unimportant and it is the gameplay and design that will make this game stand out. Your party of four has stormed this ship (or tower) with a vow to defeat the Dark King.

DESIGN

Dragon Fantasy: Venaitura is a superbly simplistic design. It is a dungeon crawler really that has you headed up a tower, floor after floor you just clear out monsters, puzzles, beat times and avoid dangerous obsticles. The design is absurdly simple, yet amazingly great. Each floor was probably created in a matter of minutes, but due to each floor having a gimmick like a beat the clock challenge, wandering enemies and zipping wizards make each level a fun and interesting challenge. There are no towns, no inns, no real NPCs to speak to other than merchants. The game is designed to be speedy and quick, before you know it you are onto the next level, but not before defeating a boss character.

GAMEPLAY

There are no traditional levels, classes or anything of that nature. This game goes along the same lines as the Gameboy classic Final Fantasy Legend (SaGa) series that will have you purchasing upgrades to health, magic, intelligence, strength, agility, defense and even spells. Any of the four characters can have any spell, any weapon (from the very limited choices) or armor. You will be amazed at the level of customization there is with this game. After each challenge portion of a floor you will find the equivilant of a town waiting for you. The battles are styled like the other Dragon Fantasy games, where some creatures have a magical weakness and you need to use it or else you will be forced to hack and slash away five times as much as a single spell. The difference between this game and the previous Dragon Fantasy series is the fact that you can see enemies on the overhead map to avoid them.

PRESENTATION

Like the other Dragon Fantasy games, this game uses the old school graphics from the old NES Dragon Quest / Warrior games, even if it does not quite feel like the game. The music stands out as great, if not sometimes out of place on the first few floors. The battle music and victory sounds are obviously updated versions of the Dragon Warrior / Quest, but they are sure to get you into the fray like a friend that has had too much to drink at a shady bar.

EXIT

This is a simple, fun and addictive game that will keep people wanting to know what is on the next floor above the one they are on. It is a great game that stands out from everything else.

ADVICE

Variety in weapons and armors would be great. Some things could be explained better, like the push rocks. They could look more pushable and distinct from other things in the Dragon Quest series that have been branded unpushable. There could be more NPCs with hints, tips or just silly absurdity.
Ima think I;m going to change the name of my game... but that could take a while, though.

Here's my last minute (i.e. made up on the spot) release, a logic puzzle:The Warrior says the Mage lies. The Mage says the Thief lies. The Thief says that both the Mage and Warrior lie.

Warrior is (lying, telling the truth)
Mage is (lying, telling the truth)
Thief is (lying, telling the truth)
thx for 'releasing' an already existing logic puzzle
@ Maia:

What...!? Story not important? On the contrary, my dear! It is very important! That and the gameplay, of course. It's just that I made the story a little extra fun and less serious this time around. Still, there is plenty more than there was in both of the first two Dragon Fantasies. Oi. That, and there is one other town that is in the game, but it is near the end. It's sort of a demon city with quite an "interesting" cast of characters living there.

But besides that, thank you for playing DF:V! That was awesome of you, maia! Awesome(sauce) indeed. I'm also glad that you liked it (makes it all the better!)
@Ephiam

The story is only important when you elaborate with the story. If you elaborate with the story, it 'gaps' the gameplay. If the story is bad it will hurt the game. It can't hurt a game that doesn't have an elaborated story though. Personally, big story or not, I'm a big fan of playing the story and the gameplay never stopping.

I say the gameplay is most important (adding the word video to game implies video is used, but only to at least the bare necessity of being playable), but hey don't forget not all games were trying to be 100% games.
Did you know that Contra has this big elaborate story about how the Red Falcons took over a local militia? Do you know that the Black Scorpion bought the alien DNA to splice it with their troops? The story is not important. If you did not read the instruction booklets you would not know that.

Your story is in there yes, but it takes a back seat to everything else.
