RELEASE SOMETHING! DAY VIII: JOURNEY OF THE CURSED KING [DISCUSSION]

I tried Tina of the Stars, up to Level 4, where I lost my lives.
The main character felt kinda slow, but I guess it helps navigate the maze better. I liked the music and graphical selection on it, it was really nice.
My complaints are geared mostly towards level 4. First, there are spaces on the map which you think you can walk on but you can't. You're arbitrarily blocked, I'd at least like a rock or something there. I died trying to escape and found that the way I wanted to go was blocked. The flying purples have a really short horizontal pattern, though I got through them safely. But when I got the stars, I went off killing enemies as usual, then suddenly they all turned into mines and I died. What? I didn't know I could even die when I got all the stars, and those mines came out of nowhere once I hit the enemy.
Didn't have trouble with the other stages before it though.
Reminds me of the old Chocobo panic games (and obviously pacman), so I thought it was nice to see a new RPG Maker game do that.
The enemies transformed into mines (or "Perforato", as I've called them) because you didn't complete the level within the given amount of time. That timer (displayed on the right of your HUD), will still countdown even when you collect all of the stars and go on your punching-spree, it only stops when you kill of the monsters.
Level 4 seems to be getting a lot of people, so I'll definitely do something to lower its difficulty, maybe also increase the amount of time set to complete the level, especially since it's a larger, more complex map.
Thanks for your feedback.
the turrets are really easy why are you running

His Getaway skill isn't actually under his 'Skill' menu. It's actually its own skill 'Menu' of sorts, selectable from his main window in battle.
Kaempfer man, thanks for all the testing, some of the new stuff messed up the game for this new demo. I may have to upload a new version because of that one dark/light room. It's good to hear some encouragement from someone who's so familiar with the game, so that people who are finding it buggy or difficult in the beginning can get through it and see the game for what it is. So, I hope people stick with it and continue to provide feedback. Really, I am excited that many people are downloading and trying out the game, and I appreciate the patience that it has been treated with.

They are scary man I thought they were going to do something serious to me so I tried to flee, it didn't work. The second time I just cut them up something fierce. Also, I'll try out Tina of the Stars next!
edit: It tried to edit this post to discuss my feelings on Tina of Stars but a captcha assailed me and prevented that from happening and I lost my thoughts, so let me just say it seems like a very colourful and fun game that I am not particularly good at. It reminds me a lot of Bomberman, which I am much better at.
post=99452What do you do then when the time runs out and they transform into mines? Is it just a forced life loss, or is there a way to get it back into "kill enemy" spree. By "Bad things happen when the timer runs out", I kinda expected something like faster enemies, additional enemies, random effects, slower character, or things like that BEFORE all the stars were taken and you went into punch mode. I was just caught by surprise by the mines is all.

It's an instant death, mainly done just for the sake of having an alternative to the "die from the air" type of thing I've seen in many games, Like in Super Mario Bros. where if the time runs out you die automatically. So for Tina of the Stars, I wanted it to appear like she was being killed by something when the timer runs out.
You make valid points, Ocean. If the communication seems off to you then that's something I can work on with this game as well.
Ahhh, I see. Makes sense. Well, I'll continue playing it, I'll probably be able to beat Level 4 soon and then see how far I get after.
But damn this game is cute, I really liked that.

I also played Tina of The Stars
Boy, does this game have alot of style to it, the writing in that opening tutorial just oozed style and charm and I love the custom graphics. The difficulty really spikes between the second and third levels and that kinda threw me for a loop for awhile
I'd try to smooth out the curve a bit if I were you (or maybe I just stink at action games, which is a definite possibility)

Arararararghh that stupid Skeleton king is a massive jump in difficulty, being able to easily one hit kill my strongest people and it's directly after another fight leaving you no time to rest in between, and is in a multiple enemy group. If I didn't have a Warrior with Holy Blade I'd have lost. Fought him at Level 7.
I agree with this and then some. This guy just decimated my level 8 party like it was nothing (they were almost at full health!) He seems to be an optional boss that is meant to be fought at like level 13 or somthing so I'd either tone him down so he is at least possible to beat at level 8 (which is the level you should be at if you beat every single monster on floors 1, 2, 3, and 4 like I did) or make it so we won't be able to challenge him until the party is at a point where it is alot stronger (a switch door blocking the way to him would accomplish this easily) because people will try to challenge him at level 8, lose horribly, and assume your game is broken when it could actually have been your intention for him to be fought at a later time. (because, again, level 8 is pretty much the strongest you can be when he first appears, I even went as far as to try every single grave teleporter combination to guarantee that I killed them all and got all the exp. available.)

6. For my beta testing I had a lot of complaints that the bosses were WAYYY too easy! So I got Ephiam to redesign them! And because I rushed the release, I never actually tested! yay!
My plan right now is to play test the game (lol), fix up the bugs and balance issues I find, finish off the last 4 levels and release the full game. All this between now and whenever my wife goes into labour.
