IS THERE A BETTER WAY TO MANIPULATE THE LEVEL/EXP SETTINGS?

I want to make my level up and experience table more or less similar to FF6.

However, the Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary sliders in the RM2K3 Database make no sense. Is there some sort of method, patch, or tutorial to input the numbers exactly how I want them?

Primary and Tertiary raise the EXP amount by the exact same number that it is. So if you have Primary at 100, Secondary at 0, and Tertiary at 0 (or alternatively Primary at 50 and Tertiary at 50, or Primary at 0 and Tertiary at 100), then you will need a fixed 100 EXP each level.

The secondary one is the one that actually adds to the amount needed for the next level. It is Secondary number * current level added to what you had before. So if you have Primary at 100, and Secondary at 100, It will start at 200 (both the numbers together), then it will go up an extra 100 per level (because of the primary), and 100 * your current level (for the secondary). Meaning 100+100*1 for level 1, previous EXP+100 (primary) + 100*2 (secondary) (giving you 500) and so on.

So to get the values for FF6, you would need 545 in secondary (assuming 0 in primary and tertiary) to be at around the same amount as FF6 is in Level 99, but however that'll make initial levelling a whole lot slower, as you'd need 545 for Level 1, 1635 EXP for level 2, while in FF6 that would be enough for Level 8.

You can set the primary to a negative number, then have the secondary be a positive number that is higher than the positive of the primary. So if you used -480 for the primary, try +512 for the secondary. This will give you the 32 initial EXP and the 2 million + final EXP, however that will still grow a lot in the beginning. (576 EXP needed for level 3, compared to 96 in FF6, and FF6 only finally passes the RM2k3 version (-480,+512) at Level 97).

I used -88 primary and 128 secondary for Paradise Blue, but I was more mimicing the early EXP values of FF1.

Using 0 primary and 32 secondary will get the first few numbers right, but after that it'll be a small gain so even at Level 10 in FF6, it's already more than double the RM2k3 amount.

Not possible to replicate the exact curve though.
What is your best recommendation to get a decent at least, SIMILAR overall result? What numbers should I punch in?

Is a good match for the first 13 levels. It's a relatively small growth from there on. The amount of EXP that would get a player to Level 35 in FF6 would have them at Level 50 in your game. I think this might be sort of fair if you'd like to give it a shot, maybe you can just reduce the amount of EXP you get from Level 15+ enemies by 5% or 10%. Still could do with some testing, though. I'm thinking of the possibility that most players might be around level 40-50 when they beat your game, but I could be wrong. I don't imagine too many people trying to grind for 99 anyway, even though it'd be easier to reach here than in FF6.

Primary: -85
Secondary: 125
A fair match for about Level 16 to 25.

I'd probably go with the 1st one though. I could list others, but then you'd really have to pump up the EXP for initial battles and that won't be that good.

There might be the possibilty of having different versions of the same character, only with changed EXP curves but that's also effort that may not be worth it or may cause some other problems.
Yeah, the issue I'm concerned about is having a bunch of fancy numbers but in the end needing the same amount of EXP to get from level to level, which would suck.
Hey, this is really useful information, as I was concerned as well! Thanks Ocean! I'll probably play around a tiny bit and end up using those exact numbers. But wait, is that even possible? It seems to limit me to using 1 for Primary.

Oh you need a patch for that.

Something like the Goliath patch one allows you to modify that amount so you could finally have a secondary and tertiary of 0 if you want to pull off an FF8 and have a constant 1000 EXP for level up or whatever. I think some others might as well but I didn't go all patch checking so I dunno. It gives a far bigger range though at least.

Never tried having them at all negatives. Might be amusing. Might also be like "ok you're automatically level 99" which wouldn't be as fun, or maybe a crash but I don't think so.
Even though I run at 1280x960 I downloaded David to see what it's all about. I am scared though because it is unsupported. =(
