HOW DO I GET MY GAMES TO LOOK PWN-SAUCE MCGEE?

So here's my dilema.... I have some really good ideas for story and such cooking up in this brain of mine, and I have no worries that I can write, tell, and design a cool game. The only problem is that I have absolutely no idea how to get my games looking as awesome as this...
Pwn-sauce McGee aesthetics: http://rpgmaker.net/games/902/images/
Since I've been gone from the RPGMaking world for so long, the standard for a game's aesthetic appeal has simply skyrocketed, and not to be emo or anything, I'm feeling a little lost. I know that a lot of picture files are involved, but I have no idea how to make them. I have photoshop though and have a basic understanding of how it works (I'm "good" at photoshop in real life and "bad" at it in internet world if that gives you an idea of my level). Also, about how much of the above game's chipsets and charsets are custom made? And if they are not custom made, how do you get a unified look from map to map? And if they are not custom, is there a super-secret resource pool that has pretty graphics to chose from? I know I shouldn't do this, but I'm tempted to just go download good looking games and stealing their chipsets/charsets.

oh god, Muse was made by Max MacGee THE WHOLE TIME?!
My advice. Look at ABL. It looks like shit, graphics wise. Just finish the game and once you know how to make it look kickass, go back and remake it with AWESOME LIGHTNING EFFECXTXTXS.
(or go under AznChipmunk's wing and master the way of the dark lightning effects.)

:O that's my gam.
I will eventually get around to making articles describing the various steps my team and I take to put together my graphics and such.
Also, not all games necessarily have the standard of my game... not trying to be arrogant, but my game is probably one of the prettier ones around here--I put a lot of effort into making it play well and look good.
Also, a good amount of the graphics are custom, like the map and the menu, and various other things. The charsets are a combination of Theodore charsets + heavy edits, and more. The chipsets are a combination of Theodore, custom made stuff, and graphics made by a dude named Dajhail.
To get a cohesive look, we use graphics that pretty much all are the same style, or if they aren't, we will edit stuff to look the same style. I'm not the best spriter, I hardly ever do anything from scratch, but getting a knack for editing resources is handy.
#1 thing really, is to experiment until you get the hang of it. And you don't have to be a master at Photoshop, in fact, I still use Paint for plenty of things.
You're welcome to use some of the graphics from Muse, but most of them are pretty specific to Muse.
Here's a link to Theo's chipsets, if you haven't seen them before. http://rpgmaker.net/users/AznChipmunk/locker/Theodore_graphics.rar
edit: no I made Muse :(
Also, I for one, actually liked ABL's graphics.

When making a game, be sure to keep us updated with screenies of TRANSPARENT TABLES and TRANSPARENT SIGNS.
