COLLEGE MAJORS, LAZINESS, AND IRRITATION - I SWEAR THIS TOPIC IS IN THE VALID SECTION!
Posts
As many of you may know, I am currently in college. I'm majoring in computer animation (which I've yet to take any classes actually relating to it), but I recently been considering a major change, and here's why...
My one true, enduring passion is creating characters, personalities for those characters, and developing a story/plot and relationships involving them. With a computer animation degree, I thought, "I could just, like, make video games. I love video games, so I suppose I would enjoy creating them." Of course, their was more motivation present than just that sentence verifies. Anyway, I also love to write these stories, characters, and whatnot...however, I've recently realized I like writing much more. See, I'm essentially doing the same thing as my passion with both options (creating video games and writing). Writing is much LESS tedious than developing a video game or even making a simple animation; plus, I'm a much better writer than I am an artist. Since I'm more of a lazy, laid-back person, you can probably guess which one I prefer doing between drawing/animating and writing.
Anyway, you're probably wondering what the point of all this this. Well...
I'm at a crossroad in life. I'm not sure which would be both the better, and the more enjoyable, option for me. Oh, and I suppose I should mention I hate the fact that I'm having to pay a close to $600 bill each month (which covers rent, utilies, car insurance, etc....and I JUST got a new job...haven't even started yet.) I live with a friend in a town much bigger than the one I'm from. I've barely considered moving back with my parents, however, financially, it would be a good move.
Anyway...what are your thoughts? Any advice for me? Helpful suggestions?
I'd really appreciate it, guys.

1) Your rambling here is kind of hilarious and I have no idea what you are asking.
2) You have totally missed the point of animation.
3) I totally support your decision to change your major to creative writing, so I can hear just how superior a writer you are in every writing thread, bitch about not having a job, and then make the next thread that bitches about having no sigs explode into a flurry of nonsense and bullshit.

my thoughts: i'm paying well over twice that without issues. i'd do anything to be able to get away with only having $600 worth of bills each month. maybe you live in louisiana's asshole, though, and rent is like seventy five cents, I dunno.
if you're asking if it's cool to move back in with your parents, go for it, lots of kids do that. but were i in your position i'd just work harder, because dependence is the worst.
if you're asking what to study, study something that isn't video games 101 please
oh and the writing thing: i'll believe you are a better writer than you are an artist when you can make something that isn't about roy wily ^^

I...don't understand why you guys are trolling me.
And, in all honesty, I'm not bitching about anything. I like said, I'm at a crossroad and don't know what I should do. I'd prefer some constructive input.
Well, Kef, I'd have to argue that there's a difference between doing something for fun (something that isn't really serious) and something that is serious and would require dedicated effort.
With that said, I believe it's clear that I don't think of RPG Maker as a serious development tool (which is why I've made two FAN-GAMES with it rather than something, dare I say, serious.)

until you can show otherwise, i am going to assume that megaman adventures of roy wily's revenge is the best thing you can do.. burden of proof is on you bucko
and here, my one big piece of legitimate, unbiased, direct, non-troll advice: do not major in creative writing for any reason. if you must, major in english, but be prepared to go a lot further than a bachelor's to make it work for you.

I have been told that major in creative writing is not a good option, so I will essentially adhere to your advice.
However, since I am not knowledgeable of as to why, I like to hear exactly why I'd have to go farther than a bachelors degree in English to be successful with it...
Oh, and...would you like proof? I have written a handful of stories (not a grossing amount, I'll tell you) and a bit of poetry. Would you like to see an example?
Stay in computer animation or something else videogamesish, write a novel in the mean time and try to get it published. If you like to write, your best bet is just to write and see what you can do with it. Formally studying "writing" won't help you career wise.

That has essentially been my dilemma.
The thing is, I consider myself a less-than-credible artist, which to my knowledge, you have to harness at least a little artistic ability to make your animation skills apparent. Right?
...also, I wasn't even able to pass Drawing 3 (figure drawing), which is a prerequisite to the animation classes. Though, admitted, I'll need to put forth more effort than I have been prior to now.

This is why you shouldn't major in it, Mitsuhide. No one can really teach you how to write, it's something you pick up with experience.
As for going beyond a bachelor's, that should be obvious - a bachelor's is basically an HS diploma these days, especially where lib arts are concerned. No, a phd or masters won't help you write better games or whatever, but it will give you a lot more weight to throw around when you want writing-related jobs, of any kind. But, what you want to do right now may not necessarily be what you want to do in a year, five years, ten years.
Alternatively, stick to animation and just practice practice practice. Don't forget to read as much as you write, too, otherwise you won't be able to get a feel for the language.

This I am aware of. I have been writing since the 7th grade, which is about 8 or 9 years now (and let me tell you, you don't want to see the atrocity that was my writing ability back in the 7th grade). I have honed my writing skills all throughout that time. I'd definitely say it has more than just improved since then.

That is my default plan. I suppose I'm just worried that I won't ENJOY doing it by the culmination of college. But, I also suppose that I shouldn't worry...since that is something I do far too often.
Go into Business Administration with a focus on IT/software development. There is a crazy need for Business Analysts right now and you'd get to write reems of documentation, requirement specs and training manuals!
i love you karsuman.

Ability is something that is developed, not innate~! If you don't have artistic ability but want it... there is only one thing to do... (register at conceptart.org)

I've had thoughts about joining that site, although it is likely going to barrage me with stuff I already know. (practicepracticepracticelol)

Well, let me clarify then...
I have developed my writing ability much further than my artistic ability. Not to mention it is easier for me to do so.
