RMVX AND YOU

Define masterpiece? I've never seen an RM* masterpiece, and I've played a whole lot of RM* games.

I've never seen an RM* masterpiece, and I've played a whole lot of RM* games.
That's...kinda a shame. I can think of a few masterpieces.
Disproportionate value for stats, an insanely slow ATB bar, battle event commands that use a skill if you go into the skill menu select a skill and cancel, terrible methodology for turn counting that makes poison and regen outrageously powerful and makes other buffs and debuffs less powerful if the party or enemy party is simply larger.
Some of the things you note are exaggerated. The battle command bug I've found to be hard to reproduce, the turn counting methodology is something I've never had a problem with, regen and hp debilitation balance can be controlled easily, on the matter of agility;
Should I make a screencap of it, go into Photoshop and type in the text "HIGH QUALITY" to get the point across?
Maybe if you and your partner learned some humility, I'd take the things you two have to say and do a little more seriously. Actually, you're not that bad to be honest.
When did RMVX come out? Is it too soon to expect a masterpiece from it yet?
Masterpiece is a word I'd reserve for something almost unfathomable. Something highly uncommon. How about we go with the word "memorable"?
Some 2k3 games are fun, and I have enjoyed them. It's just that it's harder to control that it should be. Also, I like having a real evasion stat (2k3 AGI kind of pretends to affect evasion, but not really).
Oh, and yes, I do have an ego and I ride a high horse. I took the time to install the hoof-risers myself.

okay, so "masterpiece" was too grand a word. I meant by lowly RM indie 15 year olds standards. "Memorable" works.
Believe it or not; there are 2k3 games with good battles.
I actually enjoyed AAG's battles despite them being kind of glitchy, especially with animations. I am curious what Neok could make beyond rm2k3.
I typically enjoy the battles in rm2k more, since it avoids many of the more obnoxious bugs.
Actually, you're not that bad to be honest.
I can be quite self-deprecating.
As for Craze...well...yeah.
"memorable"?
Much better word.

I was suggesting people learn XP over VX .
XP has the messiest default scripts I had ever seen and lags as hell. That is all.
Not saying XP is bad since if you're a scripter or at least have knowledge you can overcome this quite quickly and some like it, but I'll definitely say VX is closer to 2k/3 feeling and easier to use, specially with noteboxes that makes anything custom much easier :p

Once I finish AAG, I'll likely move onto trying out VX. I actually haven't started a new project in something like 3 years so it'll be nice to try something new.

honestly, this doesn't bother me in the least. you have every right- the shit you make is awesome.

RAM could possibly be an issue, but if XP and VX require 1GB+ RAM to just run without choking, I'd say that's a case of terrible code and bloat.
What century do you live in? 1 Gig of RAM is less than standard these days, just ask my laptop which runs about as fast as a snail with a boulder attached to it when running multiple programs. And I'm not even running Vista ;(

post=107154Plus, getting a sideview battlesystem that doesn't SUCK is very easy with VX, whilst in 2k3, you'll have to deal with, amongst other things, a slow ATB bar.Every sideview system I've seen for VX is terrible and generic; the only real difference between the 2k3 and VX iteration would be how difficult it is to work with and how buggy it is.
Oh, and the interface tends to be convoluted and ugly on these things, but that's something that could be easily rectified if the people making these games had half a brain.
Well, as I enjoy the classic, front-view system that comes with VX (with improvements), I really do not care to compare amateur-coded sideview battlesystems compared to commercial efforts (by, I'm guessing, a number of programmers) into something that couldn't even be lifted out of a final fantasy beta. Both might work, and both might suck but if one is made by a payed number of programmers and the other is a product of some lonely programmer for free, then who deserves the bigger turd of non-quality?
