CHILDHOOD NOSTALGIA

So I was talking to some friends of mine about anime, and the the subject of our first anime came up. Things got to rolling, and we ended up talking about nostalgia in general.

Everyone has that bit of something that they look back on with fond eyes, either lovingly or bittersweet, and no matter what anyone says about it, those things hold a special place in our hearts. So, let's share some of those things with everyone. Be it a game, anime, toy, particular memory or what have you, there's at least one thing that we look back at with nostalgia goggles, so let's hear it.

For me, it'd have to be my first anime. I guess it didn't help that I really cut my anime tooth on Galaxy Express 999, but even while watching it, I couldn't help but have that poignant feeling.

This is one of the reasons why, too. So what about you? What do you guys find nostalgic?
Chrono Cross and MxPx. In fact most PSX RPGs and Christian punk rock bands.
Scarlet- Independent Love Song

The Brave Little Toaster

Wet Dreams
I'd immediately have to say "Mega Man" (The first game) brings back nostalgia for me. I played the hell out of that when I was uber young. In particular, the music for Bomb Man's stage, I remember that tune more than any other.

Yeah, good times. Good game. =)
My SMRPG nostalgia goggles are so thick they might as well be opaque.
SNES RPGs. Especially the soundtracks from Secret of Mana and a few other games. The Dark Crystal Overture (the VHS version, not the remastered version!).

Other nostalgia I only remember when it hits me in the face.
Ark
Wario's-a number one!
1770
For my first anime, it would have to be watching Macross Plus at 11 at night with my dad when I was 9.

And well... My greatest memory speaks for itself.

Haha, Nu Pogodi, right? That's pretty cool. I would have liked to watch that as a child.

Probably just PSX RPGs for me. And GBA games I played when about 14...
Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure. Was my favourite PSX game. And still one of my favs! :D
PS: Eike, isn't your avatar Cornet from Rhapsody?

The only TMNT series worth watching, the old one. =)

Yeah. I really like that picture, probably due for a change sometime, though. I wish I'd played Rhapsody when I was a bit younger, as well. I only played it for the first time a few months ago.

And I can't believe I forgot Pokemon Red and all the old GB/GBC games at about age 10.
The DS version of Rhapsody is a porting disaster.
But to keep on topic, I can't remember my first anime, either Sailor Moon or Pokémon, dunno.
Pokemon, probably. I try to avoid it now, but I played that for as long as I could possibly remember.

Ugh, agreed. Don't worry, I sought out the PSX version instead, hah. I want to try the DS version eventually, but I'm glad I didn't play it before the original...

Sorry to derail.

Don't play the DS version, please :(
The extra scenarios are missing from the english version, and all sound effects were replaced with 8-bitish rubbish. And all the songs are in japanese. Pretty sad :/

I dare you to try watching it again. The newer animated one (not the even newer CG one) is a much better show than the original TMNT. I picked up the old series and tried to watch it again and it was extremely painful. The worst part of all is Shredder isn't the badass you thought he was when you were 4-years-old, but is instead a comic relief goofball that's poorly written and animated. That might make a good topic, though... childhood cartoons that hold up well with time. I can think of Thundercats and Rescue Rangers as still being good, with He-Man being on the opposite end of the spectrum as completely awful.
