FONTS

I have realised that the default RM2k3 fonts stink. They do the job, but they are pretty boring. What I'm in need of is a) a way to make new fonts in the old fashioned .fon format (not ttf/truetype which Rm2k3 can't display properly) or b) a decent archive of said fonts.

If anyone could help me out I'd be much obliged.
the only thing I ever saw that could change the font in rm2k3 basically renamed the MS Gothic UI (or whatever the font was called) and copied one of the other good fonts and gave it that name. It looked decent, and it worked well, except for the fact that it would change ALL rm2k3 games on YOUR computer, and could not be permenantly saved to a specific project, meaning if someone downloaded your game it would still have the same crappy default font it always had.

I don't know if someone made some kind of patch for this or not though, a lot of my information is outdated, lol.
I have a program that will change the font applied to the RPG_RT executable, I just need the fonts themselves (or a way to make my own).

This works pretty well for me in spite of the fact that the author is apparently a furry.

Pretty much any monospaced font will be read properly by RPG_RT.exe to my knowledge, TTF or .fon.
Wow! This works perfectly. Now if only RM2k3 wasn't such an asshole about font widths. Still, thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for (furry or not).

I don't think this can be; I am using a modified monospace .fon and even that RPGMaker can't read- it seems the letters have to be precisely 5 pixels wide, otherwise they look awful.

I do admit I never dabbled too deep into how RM2K3 reads the fonts; I only got into it enough to know how to change fonts via hex editting, and that I specifically needed monospaced fonts if I wanted to use different ones.

The 5px thing is new to me, an interesting find I say. RM2K3's font mechanics severely lacks documentation.
Unless I'm mistaken, it's set to allocate 5 pixels for the actual letter/symbol and one pixel for the space. Anything more and they'll blend together. That's what I've found from trying a few different things, anyways. It's possible you can use certain .ttfs (MS Mincho and MS Gothic are both truetype and are the fontfix fonts) but I can't figure out how, as the program I'm using doesn't allow it (it allows it, they just don't work right). They always seem to be squished.

Anyways, I can highly recommend the program uh linked to earlier. It's really user friendly and intuitive, I picked it up in no time and it has a lot of smart and helpful features that make it really easy to edit your font and get it into the game for testing without a lot of steps (which is good if you are editing one pixel at a time to see if it'll look right in game!). Anyone looking to create their own custom fonts for RM2k3/anything low res should definitely grab it.
