A) 95% of fangames are bad in some, or usually all ways.
...
90% of anything is crap.

90% of anything is crap.
So, based on your logic, 90% of crap is crap?
That's got to be some kind of paradox.
The TouHou Fangames are FANGAMES of an indie game made by some guy! TouHou fans are insane. They even (tried) to make an entire fan anime about it.
Final Fantasy is like Zelda, the plot is different each time, even though some characters will carry over.
Because of this inconsistency, I think game makers get confused and believe that so long as it shares a title, it's okay. While for a few select titles it may seem so (such as FF Crystal Chronicles), this doesn't give the liberty to fuck up a good game series.
I agree with this totally!

B) The good fangames, while they are amazing in some ways, the talent used to make them could've been spent on something original, and I favor this decision.

Radnen makes an interesting point. Generally fan games are games that have a pre-after/before story as the game they're being a fan of (or at least taking the story structure and art style). Its hard to see the point in calling it Final Fantasy when it looks like this: http://rpgmaker.net/games/490/
I think these are a good example of a non-fuckingwiththeseries-fangame: http://rpgmaker.net/games/1729/ or this http://rpgmaker.net/games/429/
They take the graphical style, story structure, (and hopefully musical feel), and make a very convincing homage. Whether or not they are GOOD or the effort could have been spent on something original is up to you guys, but as long as these keep the general feel, theres no way to not call it a final fantasy game.
tldr: Nigsek is a cool game, but questionable as a fangame
edit: I just realized we are steering back to the original point of this topic
