also super mario world
Seiken Densetsu 3, Grandia, Wild ARMs, and Vesperia have them too!

But uh as for maps just practice and learn from snes games. Making interior maps and exterior maps are different from each other, so don't apply everything you know from one and apply it to the other. And don't have your maps cutoff. Okay.

i don't count the phantom train as a ghost ship.
and no, never played chrono cross. too many people told me it sucked.

i've never been a really hardcore gamer. the games i played the most growing up were SNES and N64 games. i was always a nintendo kid- i never got a different company's console until recently.
Subjective thoughts aside, I'd say you're definitely missing out on what playstation has to offer on RPGs if you haven't played them. If you ever have the time, cash, and interest, I suggest you pick up an old PS2 and some games for a few bucks. Even Chrono Cross is worth a try, even though I have my own thoughts on its flaws, its aesthetic and music are beautiful.

* Chaos fondly reminisces of buying 32 Dancing Rays and instant-killing 32 formations of undead for massive exp over and over.
So, is it fine to make a phantom train or ghost ship or whatever?????

I'm planning to making a phantom ghost ship in my game......

I mean, phantom ghost TOWN, sorry....
If it is a good* dungeon, leave it in.

If it isn't a good* dungeon:
1) Remake it until it is
2) Remove the dungeon

If you aren't sure, make it anyways! If it is a good* dungeon, all the better. If not, learn from your mistakes!

* I refuse to give a definition for a 'good' dungeon because that is a different can of worms altogether and I doubt everybody could agree on a definition besides 'one that is fun'

...
What are you talking about? Quest 64 was awesome in every way.

Put the game in and play it now.

- 90s 3D camera syndrome.
- dungeons where you walk, fight, walk, fight, walk, fight, walk, fight, get disoriented and find you have been going the wrong way for the past half hour and turn around, walk, fight, walk, fight, walk fight. 95% of the time you're just moving forward.
- Don't bother, just raise water and earth until you get the barrier, then stop playing the game because you pretty much just won it.
- I've seen first-time RPG Maker games with a better story.
- Boring towns full of people who have NOTHING useful or interesting to say.
- Music is very boring and loopy.
- Without hesitation, this game immediately comes up when I think of a game I have played which has the worst level design ever. This INCLUDES most RPG Maker games I've played (most of them).

Years ago when it first came out and even now, I really wanted to like a good solid RPG for the N64 which was lacking in the RPG department. It had better graphics and everything, only trounced in ROM size by the PSX which used CDs (yay we get to hear bad voice acting and sit through FMVs). But it's also a good example of having better graphics means nothing. The game feels like it was made just to have an RPG for the N64.
You missed a fight in there (but the disorientation gets better after figuring out that after a fight Brian always faces the way he was when the fight started)

(not that it fixes just how goddamn repetitive nature of the dungeons and how everything blends together with no way to tell where you are, where you're going, and just how far you have to go (hint: it is always too long))
... how everything blends together with no way to tell where you are, where you're going, and just how far you have to go...............

Hey......
There's something in this phrase......
I'm trying to figure out what it is.....
I think......
What he means is that......
The objects and scenery blend together too much.... And nothing stands out....
Making it hard to tell......
Where you have to go......
...........................................................................
................................................................... Yeah.................
I mean.......................You see the same..................Kinds of scenes over
...........................and over again......................................
..........................................................................
