RPG MAKER 95 ENGINE PAGE + CATEGORY

Give it a chance, okay? Let us submit an RM95 game in... let's say this summer, and if you think it rocks, then it should be allowed, otherwise it won't.
I just got an idea to show battle animations on the map: Maybe it would be possible if I show a series of pictures quickly after another. Yeah!

By the way: Does anybody have the RM95 RTP or knows where I can get it? Does it even exist?
And don't forget the mouse support.
Mouse support a) sucks and b) is also possible by patching RM2k/3. I never used the mouse anyway while playing a 95 game because it also works fine without it. ;-) It imay be an additional feature, but it is also a useless feature. Nah, it was more annoying to switch between mouse and arrow keys when I wanted to save. So I would say it is a negative feature. X-D

I didn't know that there's an RM95 released in the 90's!
This is a pretty good reason why I suggested RM95 be recognized as a game engine on RMN. Most newcomers (the new script-nublets of RMXP and VX) have no clue what RPG Maker 95 even is (let alone its influence on the community today), which is quite a sad story since RM95 began the greater part of the English RM community in so many ways. RM2K may have taken the spotlight and RMXP may have placed its mark by being the first official English translation, but the true pioneer in every sense of the word was RM95.

I don't want any RPG95 games on this site and I refuse to host them.
I think nostalgia is a pretty bad reason to accept RM95 games and support it as an engine =) Gonna have to side with WIP here.
Technically, there's nothing stopping people from submitting RM95 games under the "Custom" tag, but why does RM95 need to be filed under that category when the site in question is called RPGMaker.net, the greater part of the community uses/used RM in one way or another, and owes its existance (along with pretty much all other present-day English RM communities) to RM95? Even Famitsu still recognizes RM95 alongside 2K(3), XP and VX. Something just doesn't add up here. =(

95 is pretty terrible and I don't see why you would defend such a bad program.
Nobody is going to deny that RM95 is an ancient relic compared to our standards today, and I honestly don't think the people who voiced agreement with my suggestion want RM95 for its game-making value. Rather, RM95 deserves recognition for the undeniable influence it's had on all of us all those years ago.

Very few (if not none at all) English RM communities nowadays even recognize or remember RM95, RMN can be unique in that aspect and showcase RPG Maker's long and humble history for all to read up on.
I have never used/seen rm95. My rm-ing began with rm2k (and that was in 2002)

You are right, but it made the games feel like PC games and not some shoddy console ports. I prefer keyboard controls, but the inclusion of the mouse support was nice.

I understand what you're saying, and it's a noble thought. I just don't think RMN is intended to function as a museum of RPG Making past. If it's obsolete enough that pretty much 100% of the people who visit RMN don't use it, then it probably has no purpose on the site (and if 2k and 2k3 both obtain that level of obsolescence, I don't think, I KNOW WIP would remove those as viable choices too).

But in reality it obviously is. Someone once said to me ''Most of RMN's games are even older than the old men who run the site.'' ^_^ (Don't know if that's true, but the latest game I reviewed from database, ''Easy Mac'', is damn old. But it's still there for nostalgia, although the game itself is crappy for today's standards.)

But about RM95: A few days ago I also played a quite good German VX game which used absolutey no feature of the engine focussing 100 % on the story. Afterwards some people said ''The game would have been better in RM2k/3 since it used no VX feature anyway.''. But it still used graphics with more than 256 colors, and I thought ''No, it would have also been possible with RM95. More than with RM2k/3.'' (except the problem with the on-map battle animations, but I told you a solution for that one above... uncertain if it would really work. But after all it would still be interesting to see how much we could push RM95 to its limits.)
My goodness, that argument was worse than 95 itself! How did you do it deacon?

Anyway if you want a museum, go here: http://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/4667/ there are some 95 games on there.

what argument?
So you have no intention of bringing 95 to RMN or defending it as a program? Okay.
I thought it already is allowed here and this is about to forbid it or not?

As said I never worked with it. But I also have nothing against it, because as always it is all up to the author what he gets out of that tool. That it does not run on newer systems is a pity of course. But RM2k/3 afaik also made problems on Vista, BUT does run well on Windows 7. So it may be possible that 95 would run on newer systems again. But I don't know.

Nevertheless if I could be sure that you would allow me to submit a 95 game to the RMn I would really start one. Just for you. ;-) And even you would love it. <3

Just to make sure the fires keep burning in this thread, the site is going to get to the point where it also won't accept submitted 2k or 2k3 games.
