Is anyone else excited about this game? I mean you get an open galaxy to explore with your ship and you can explore it with all of your friends. STO FTW!
i predict WIP will approve of this topic
also i forgot that this was coming out! now i must make a heart-rending decision between this and the old republic

If by "Open Galaxy" you mean a series of tiny instanced rooms and by "Explore" you mean partake in generic MMORPG quests than yes; this might be an accurate description of the actual game.
It's a Cryptic game, so expect it to hit the bargain bin in two weeks after the standard crop of MMORPG rubes discover that the game is no deeper than a half empty kiddie pool.
This happens with most every MMORPG to come out. A game get released; a ton of fanfare while a vocal minority states what should be obvious (Design flaws, bugs). They are then shouted down by the same fans who will - in two weeks time - be the most vocal critics of the game.
It'll still fare better than a fantasy MMO, though, since WoW has that market pretty well cornered
But Cryptic... heh

If this was 10 years ago I'd be all over this. Unfortunately I don't play games.
Actually, I'd probably play KOTOR...or maybe...man, I'm torn over this AND I don't expect to be playing either of them!

Hrmm... MMO's...
Well, I'm not too into Star Trek so I wouldn't play this. Star Wars: The Old Republic on the other hand...
I loved Kotor. It remains one of my fave RPGs. Too bad Kotor 2 refuses to work in Vista.

I'm a loving star trek fan, but I just can't say the star trek universe is more fun sounding than the star wars universe.
EDIT: however, if every mission you went on turned out to be some pretty cool stuff, like: sneak into lab, steal co-ordinates, have ship blast co-ordinates from space... or... basically, the kinds of missions you might expect in a good single player game. something that draws you into the universe and care about it.

post=119716Hahaha I can almost guarantee it!
I wonder... Will there actually be people playing this game speaking nothing but Klingon?
I suppose that will be a good tactic to employ in PvP. Offput your opponent by jabbering on in Klingon to your allies while they remain unaware of what you are saying.
Err yes... I forgot MMOs have an ignore function. Then again, I wouldn't like someone speaking Klingon to me much either.
i think the thing that makes aces high so good is that it's completely unlike any other MMO considering the combat flight sim setting. it doesn't feel like you're playing an MMO at all
Yeah exactly. I like flight sims as well, so that's also probably why I liked it, as opposed to the endless questing to get ArmorX to trade to FriendY to get ItemZ you do in most MMOs.
