I get this error from time to time, does anyone know what causes it and what I can do to fix it? I seem to only get it when I go into a battle, but it doesn't happen all the time and there's nothing special about the battle coding wise that should cause it to bug like that.
I remember getting an RPG_RT error when I mix up two patches together. Did you recently add a patch to the RPG_RT? Does a fresh RPG_RT from a brand new project moved into the game's folder work?
Double check that each and every spell that each and every character has has already had an animation set to it (ex walk forward display frame 7 etc) just going into each spell and scrolling through the characters will at least get them the default.

That and people getting swapped out of or into a party while dead are about the only things I've seen cause fatal crashes with battle.

I did get a similar error message like that long ago on a very simple piece of code that would literally crash every other time (and work every other other time lol). Sadly never found a way around it and just re-did the code base :(

I stick with only one patch for them. I tried an unpatched RPG_RT but still get the same error. I tried the same RPG_RT as I had in Paradise Blue and still get an error.

But I'll recheck the battle code and see if I missed something.
I'm pretty sure that I get this exact same error when I enter a battle and it seems that I only get it when I play a game in editor, since it happens not just when I play my own. I'm sure this is probably just some glitch in RM and not something you've done.

I think I figured out what it was, though I'll probably not request a lock for this in case the testing wasn't enough. The previous battle I had the characters all on Berserk for the whole battle, and they died, the game recovers them instead of getting a game over, and then you go into another fight. So taking off the berserk conditions on them means I can lose normally and then go into the next battle without a problem, so far. I think I might have seen a time without berserk on when I crashed, but I think I did auto-battle that time.

If not I'll just reinstall RM2k3 and try that out.

And for the "Use RMVX" responses that might pop out, I'm using that for my next project, I have some progress on it but I wanted to finish this first.
RMVX has some nasty glitches, too...
Best one is still "RPG Advocate is cool". I actually never figured out what makes that one appear, I got it only once.

You mean the ones caused by user error and messing up scripts instead of insane stuff like YOU FORGOT TO SET A CASTING ANIMATION FOR KYLIE?

If its a losing battle situation there are a few things in 2k3 that have to be done or it will crash. Here are the only things I've managed to find out that stops it from crashing after a defeat handler:

1: Full heal the entire party
and 2: make sure that all of the code for the rest of the event is within the battles defeat handler.

I've had a multitude of crashes occur just because the party was forced to lose a battle and then enter a new battle right afterward.

Me too! it was a pain in the ass.

I found that if I edited the Monster Group associated with that scripted battle, playing it would crash the game 80% of the time until I edited the map event and saved the map. Like somehow modifying the monster group fucked with the pointers in the map event causing that crash, and the only way to fix it was to recreate the Enemy Encounter.

I also got a similar (but equally unhelpful) error whenever I used a hit-all skill on a group of enemies where one has a reflect skill status effect on. I wanted to add those in DG but the fact that it was the cause of one crash was enough to never use them. Rm2k3!

I like how the errors in lots of programs are just like

"Error somewhere! Now crashing..."

And say absolutely nothing about what happened.
